This forum is no where near as bad as others, I thought this was actually quite reasoned debate !
Even though the orignal post was just about buying a PS3.
I dont think you can mention the word "playstation" without a war erupting.

To be honest Stewart I was trying to join in on in a discussion with my own opinions and thought that some of your posts were pretty loaded. But then they may have just come out not as you meant, it's a forum and you can't tell.
Fanboy is one thing I am not, and never will be; but right now the merits of the 360 outweigh the PS3. Perhaps this may change and as I have said I hope it does well too, despite Sony's sublime arrogance and bad handling of it before/at release.
You have to chill slightly. This is an open forum and you will have people with differing opinions, experience and enthusiasm for the subject posting.
I've seen and played the PS3 for quite a few hours with a lot of the launch titles and I was left underwhelmed at the games and less so than the 360 too, although they were generally poor. Maybe if the 360 was not out I would be more impressed, but it is, and I am not. Combine that with the great Xbox Live Experience and the 360 is ahead by a bit...right now.
Anyway it's ok I won't spoil your private discussion again, thanks
Mate, say what you want; if you think the PS3 is crap, say so. Just qualify it with more than an accusation that anyone who posts anything you disagree with is a fanboy.
This is an open forum, but if we collectively try to keep at least some standard of debate, its an open forum that actually serves a purpose.
Me and Jo, for instance, clearly disagree at the moment on the state of play, but both of us seem to be able to discuss it by actually offering opinions. If you disagree, I'm sure you are intelligent enough to say why, in a slightly more sophisticated manner than 'you are a fanboy'.
The Moderators here have a duty to do more than just post, we are supposed to keep the quality of posts to a certain standard. Go and read the GameFAQs forum, and you'll see what a forum becomes when the quality of posts is left unchecked.
You seem to think I'm having a go because you don't like the PS3, when I'm actually having a go because you express the fact you don't like the PS3 with silly throw-away comments that don't add anything to the debate.
It wasn't a silly throwaway comment it was an observation on what it looks like, but if it's not true then fair enough. I'm not the type of person to say this without thinking about it after reading what you said.
Jobs a good'un! A good'un damn you! Insult me then get it right!Originally Posted by Stewart

It also annoys me that I'm not allowed to compare it with current gen games just cause Sony was late to the party...if they're that late then they should have some decent games out by now.
Sony's behaviour and lack of caring for gamers annoys me quiet a lot in all honesty, though I am sure most of it is hype.
Anyway my opinion is as I said above after having a long evening gaming session at a mates house. Playing the PS3 left me totally underwhelmed.
On the subject of HD media:
I've got a Blu-Ray player at home in my PC and a HD-DVD player on my 360 and I see no difference in quality between them @ 1920 x 1080. OK, I'm not a media-phile nor will I pretend to be - but for me the Blu-Ray capabilities of the PS3 are the only thing that makes it even semi-interesting right now...and for less money you get a 360 + HD-DVD player (albeit not in one package), with a better gaming machine and better online capabilities to boot.
Hope that and the above post fells more constructive as I admit it in this thread it looks like I was posting one-liners (thinking it had all been said I spose)
One thousand appologies.
Completely agree, but then its not actually out yet, and the 360 has been out for a year plus. Its not that important really, how many games are out for a console you can't buy yet, unless you import. Come March \ April, when us poor UKers can actually buy one, it becomes more of an issue.I don't think it's crap, I just don't think it can compete with the Xbox 360 right now in terms of games or online experience
And guess what... come March \ April there will be more games avalible.
I stand by what I said before, that a lot of the anti-PS3ness () is simply wishful thinking by people who own a 360, but that reason dooesn't hold water when it comes to an actual discussion, so some people resort to 'u r teh fanboy', and then the thread goes down the tubes.
I'm not suggesting you are one of these people, but its obviously the motivation for a lot of our forum users.
Indeed, and there is. They have been mentioned in this very thread, by me, Nick, and others.if they're that late then they should have some decent games out by now.
Well I just want the games to come out so I can have a long hard play with them (oo-er) and see if they are any better.
Played that motor-storm the other day and a few of the other supposed big hitters and they're not great
I entered this discussion and others alike because some people think that the ps3 will do better than a 360 because its made by sony.
I beleive the ps3 will do ok but to say it will do better than the 360 in a years time is debatable.
im just expression my opions by stating that it wont do has well given that the 360 has been out for a while and will continue to improve itself in gamewise and even with the xbox live in which they update each quarter of the year in improvements.
At the end of the day, im stating facts on why the 360 will do better, im not making up things in here. I will withdraw from this discussion has some users feel ofended by my opinions to warrent me having an IQ has a child.
Opinions, not facts.
And what you actually said was 'why buy a product because of its brand name when there is a better CHEAPER product by another brand?'
Sorry if I've offended you, but how about you actually discuss things, rather than just pulling statments of 'fact' out of the air.I will withdraw from this discussion has some users feel ofended by my opinions to warrent me having an IQ has a child.
Just saying don't buy a PS3 because the 360 is better gets us nowhere. It might be your opinion, but at least be arsed to qualify it by actually saying why this is. That way, this place remains a cut-above the other gaming forums on the net.
Do you know how hard it is to find a gaming forum where you can actually talk about the consoles and games coming out without it degenterating into a 'ur console sux' slanging match?

As with any console the ps3 has its good and bad points
personally I can see it becoming as much of a success as the PS2 in the forseeable future, however the 360 does have a loyal fanbase with its live gaming system, something which untill I personally see the PS3 one have to presume is inferior (from opinions of people who have both and also the comment of how if sony wanted to make the PS3 better they should have copied xbox live for online gaming)
every console has its positive and negative points, there is no point in saying x is better than y purely because of the name on it
This argument is so boring...I mean we are not goign to see who one for months yet and it won't be decided by the people here, at Digg (where it is endless debated), or on any forum. It will be decided by people on the street through word of mouth, brand loyalty, money, marketing and about 1000 other things which informs a persons decision. Lets face the hardcore gamers are in the minority.
And the fanboy accusation which is so in vogue at the moment is the poorest put down I have heard in a long time. So what if someone likes one companys product more than anothers, thats why you buy something right? Just because I bought a Toshiba LCD TV and like it very much doesn't mean I'm a fanboy but because I cannot fault it then according to the rule of thumb applied I was labelled a fanboy. Thats just lame, its one product in my house. I have sofas from Argos and units from Ikea but because I am pleased with them I am a fanboy?
Lets make a little stand on Hexus and rule out the use of fanboy across the forums. And if you are thinking of being clever and writing something like "lolz fanboi roflz!!!1!" after this, don't bother that would be lame.
My oh my oh my.
What have I started?!?
Well, for what it's worth, I'm now back and have spent a few hours with it connected to my PJ running at 1080P. Looks rather nice. Just been playing ridge racer 7, and the graphics are very slick, quality of the modelling of the cars is very good. I did try online, and that seemed fine with no lag although I was handed my arse on a plate after 10 seconds, so can't tell if there was any lag after 'cos the cars were in front of me, out of sight speeding into the horizon
I tried the remote play with my PSP, and whilst I can control the PS3 from the PSP, I don't think they've implemented the remote play with the demo version of formula 1.
For those who don't know, the idea is that you link your PSP to the PS3 wirelessly, and then in F1, the screen of your PSP acts as the rear view mirror of your Ferrari or whatever. Pretty nifty Shame they haven't stuck that in the demo, would be a very nice technical point to show off Still, the graphics are very good and very lifelike. In view cockpit is done well, and not the usual rectangular shaped arms that stick to a steering wheel that only appears to have say 5 positions. It's all rather smooth and totally engaging.
Sonic is very eye-candy-ish. Not that great in quality, but very colourful, just like the previous versions. Very smooth gameplay, although the controls are tricky to get to grips with the rotating camera that sometimes decides to change angle on its own, throwing you off course
System features such as web browser work very well. I stuck the CF card from my digicam and viewed the photos. As well as just getting a slide show, there's a fancy slide show where you see the photos appear as if they're playing cards which have just been tossed by a dealer. Very "apple" like, and very nifty.
I guess system features will improve as time goes by, but so far, it does stuff well. I can't compare to a 360 (cos I don't have one), nor do I want to because I'll only start a war again
Considering what I paid for it, it's a bargain, however I can see certain people's point of view with the current advertised price at launch - it is rather pricey for a games console. But then again, it's also a BD disc player. And when you look at it like that, it's not only the cheapest Blu-ray disc spinner on the market, it's also a (insert qualitative adjective here!) games console.
I'll try and get some screenshots at some point of it going through the PJ.
About that cuppa you promised me....
is the ps3 noisy like the 360 or much quieter? can you actualy use a psp has a control pad for the ps3?
