Over at GPG Forums, the team have said they are working on a patch for the UI to make it less intrusive and more customizable.

They also said that the UI could be changed as much as you like using the lua script and so no doubt there will be mods to fix this... I dont find it intrusive at 1600x1200, but maybe that's just me

P.S. Sorry to hear that Steve... means I am less envious though

Downloaded the demo tonight. Even on minimum detail, my PC was struggling and the first large-ish saw the FPS drop to single figures .

The gameplay from what I have seen is not all it was hyped up to be. I am going to be sticking to Spring - looks a lot better and runs fine on my X800XL, closer to TA as well IMO.

If you put your specs in the my system link on the left we'll be able to see them and see why

It does run brilliantly on max details for my rig Though that may change if I get a better monitor.

If my system <<<< will run it on medium and high settings at 1280x2024 with 2xAA I'm sure most peoples will be able to. There are some artifacts now and again but I'm gonna put that down to my gpu being overclocked.

Granted it is not silky smooth however its by no means that noticeable and I for one absolutely hate stuttering game play. I can't think of anything more annoying in game.

As for the game play its self, one really needs to build their base up and get some of the mega advanced weapons to fully appreciate the game. They take an age to build even with loads of builders, but when you get to use these things they are fun to watch and interact with; when these things kick in the game is a work of art imo.

Multiply this effect on huge maps with all factions going for each other and I think one could be in for a hell of time playing this game, oh and the zooming in and out of the map is probably one of the best features of an RTS game i have seen for a good while, it works perfectly and it makes surrounding your enemy on multiple sides a doddle and it makes tactical game play easier to address.

To get the full potential out of this game (when i buy it), I will need a new rig. I know my system will have problems when there are bigger maps with more AI players and higher quality settings being used.

What I found made a big difference in frame rates is shutting down Zonealarm and spybot S&d - basically any resident programs that check files as they are run - and turning shadows down to low or off. Has minimal impact on the actual visuals but increase frame rates quite a bit....

Dear lord this game is superb.

Just had a skirmish then and taking advantage of the crappy AI i decided to just build up an unstoppable force of Tech 3 Seige bots (~130) and those walking destroyers (~30) with some Battleships (5) in support.

Anyway just as i was about to launch a shoreline bombardment with battleships ready for an amphibious assault by destroyers i notice some of my distant fixed defences falling fast.

I eventually got a quick peek at the culprits, a team of 4 walking destroyers and a monkeylord flanking me! ok it was easy defeating this with siege bots but the battle was so cool i really didnt want it to end.

And so ive given in and ordered a new system specially for supreme commander........ this game better be worth the £370 its cost me. But im sure it will.

It sucks you in doesn't it?

funny how most people's favourite moments with this game seem to be when they got outsmarted by the AI..

are you aware that ctrl-alt-f1 hides the UI ?
Spotted the tip in some other forums when I went looking for explanations of ferrying, which I just could not get by myself.

    I was - it's in the readme.

However it doesn't help at all unless you happen to know all the other shortcuts and don't ever need to click on build queues... As far as I can tell it's just a way of watching the action better, it's useless as far as actually getting anything done is concerned.

You're right it is in the readme - didn't spot it even though I posted it to myself at work and have skimmed through it a few times.
Might it not be useful to toggle off the UI whilst in the midst of battle ?
Needs assigning to a key on my G15 keyboard - or maybe I'll see if someone's done a profile for SC.

It's arrived. Installing now. A manual as well, makes a nice change from having to work everything out.

Mixed emotions... extreme jealousy and extreme curiosity

When you eventually take a break from play, we want details!
