i think he can build higher tech stuff but you need to upgrade his right arm on the upgrades screen, costs absolutely loads mind so i never bothered

best thing about this game I've found so far is dual-screening it, it's so useful, if c&c 3 cant do that I'd be dissapointed

I only get limited time playing, being hounded by CS:S freaks
The tech 3 builds - when are they available? I had to abort in the middle of the second mission - just about to kill pretentiously spelt Mark. Was good to see the AI beating some of my defences, all though they were only secondary importance outlying defence of mass extractors.
Strange how playing experiences don't seem to equate to PC specs.
I'm running Opteron 165, 2Gig Ram, 6800GT and I have to keep the game speed down to +2 and down to -3 if I want to have any chance of targetting enemy aircraft.
Still undecided - but have Friday 16th off of work and it would be good to spend all day playing soupcomm, rather than wasting it.

played last night.. thaught id got a pretty good array of turrets on my sides of the land bridges, fended off a few waves of little enemies, then bunches of big mech things. just about holding them off so started to build a couple more turrets feeling quite confident by that stage..

THEN SOME BLOODY MORTAR THING STARTED RAINING DOWN ON ME, craters and stuff dieing all over the place. then another wave of enemies appeard so i quit out.

bloody good game, gonna take some learning but the feeling when a wave of little guys comes at you and your ot sure if your turrets will kill them all before they get to you is "A LOT LIKE ZULU" which is fatastic

Had a good skirmish last night: was building up some siege bots and sending them towards the AI base and starting on a monkeylord all ready for the attack. Had most of my point defense set up at both choke points and mainly AA defense in my base with a couple of artillery being built to start pounding their base. All of a sudden the commander under attack siren goes and I lose radar coverage, WTF?

Turns out I completely forgot that cybran destroyers can grow legs and walk on land which is exactly what about 5 of the buggers had done and come into my base from the side, of course they made short work of my few turrets and pounded the sh1te out of my base, nuking my power generators and then taking out my commander! That was great fun! I think I may try that tactic for myself next time

Yeah found it - you have to upgrade one of his arms to the tech upgrade then he can construct higher tech units.

Enjoying it so far - very much suits my preferred pace of RTS games - feels more of a pound away type game than a micromanage quick strikes.

Music is good too, though it gets me worried when the under attack music come on when I'm just taking down a position I don't need anymore

Only complaint so far is the viewing area - feels like I'm playing an old 640x480 game because the interface takes up half the screen at 1024x768 - I've not (yet) found if I can adjust that.

Seems to be a common complaint, will probably be one of the first things to be modded after it comes out. It ok for me, but I m running 1600x1200 so you get more of the gaming screen and the UI is really just a strip at the bottom, think it was definately designed with high-res in mind....

One thing I do find annoying is trying to queue build orders on your secondary screen. You can queue them just fine, but usually when you shift click when you want to build a building, it keeps it in your "hand" so you can easily place another one, but on the secondary screen it drops is so you have to keep clicking on the bar to get the building selected again. Very annoying.

Does anyone find the visible radius for units is always too small? Maybe it's to improve performance, but the majority of the time my units are firing at radar pings just outside of the visible bubble - they can obviously see the unit to be selecting targets etc, but I want to watch the action too If we could just have the GPS system from C&C..

Next newbie question - how to do I rotate the view?

Still impressed with the speed though - even in big skirmishes there's no slow down - and I forgot I'm forcing 4xAA and 8xHQAF in the control centre. Maybe using more ballistics would be heavier?

You can always use scouts/spy planes to vis the action - artillery is there to pummel, scouts are there to see what you are pummeling means you need some coordination/strategy to really get the most of the game

Well I don't need to - it has no bearing on the effectiveness of the units because they're still picking targets correctly outside of the bubble, I just don't get to see the eye candy It's not artillery I'm fussed about - that's inaccurate anyway. It's the things like heavy tanks and those walker things that direct fire.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I still think that it is important to see what you are hitting: better to prioritise your targets..

I agree that the seeing range isnt great e.g. for tanks, but again I think this is probably more of a tactical thing. Can't wait till it comes out though! Tried to find the PC Gamer with the review in but its out of stock in all my local newsies, what a pain...

Yeah the tank range is definetly a tactical thing, roll in a load of arty behind them, works a treat.
