Fruit wise I'm pretty poor really, but I eat a ton of veg. I'm not sure when I started, but I just discovered that there's so much out there that tastes amazing when done in the right combination or with sauces. Yes, a lot of it is cooked (gently), but it's not as nutrient sapping as you might expect. Main problem is things like vit C, which to be honest is quite easy to get from juices as well.

I think the 5-a-day thing is just something that's an obtainable goal for most people - even if 8 would be better, people who weren't used to any fruit/veg would think it was too hard to achieve.

I used to hate fruit and veg, but for the last year i've been going wacky and trying anything once that I find in the supermarkets.

I love munching carrots, prob something to do with that crunching feeling.

Well at least you won't get skurvey then. Potatoes have the highest concentration of Vit C out there.

I eat loads of oranges and drink loads of orange juice as well! Probably too much Vit C. Your body can only physically take so much before it is just goes to waste.

I think i read somewhere that it can also act as a laxative in large quantities and give you stomach cramps

A related tangent; Does anybody own and actually use on a regular basis a juicer/smoothy maker? Everyone I know who's bought one said that it's such a faff and so expensive to keep going.

My other half has a Kenwood smoothy maker and she used to use it all the time until she went travelling. She drinks smoothies all the time though so for her it is worth it.

She really used it when she had glandular fever and tonsilitis at the same time. Was about the only way she could get any nutrition!

not expensive, only like £30. but yes its a faff to use. only use it if we got loads and loads of fruit. if its just the odd 4 -6 apples/oranges then nah.
