Why every film has to have a love story running through it I'll never know, but it narks me off immensely. Some of the parts in his films almost make me embarrassed to be watching them. The scripts could be improved massively.
And be honest with me here, could you honestly say that you couldn't see things before they happened?

Maybe I'm a weird one, but I prefer to not know what's going to happen and be surprised, rather than pretty much know the ending after the initial 15 minute introduction into what the plot is.

One of the best? Not in a million years IMO
The reason I call him one of the best "ACTION" directors because his set pieces are usually impressive to watch and he does try to avoid needless cgi.

Besides that I agree he's never shown to be able to make a story/character driven movie so I can't see him making an oscar worthy film in the near future.

I caught a late showing Friday night (12:05). I went in expecting to be slightly disappointed, seeing how long I've been waiting for this film.

    I wasn't, it was awesome!!

I'll second that notion, but I would really have liked them to aim it at the people that used to watch transformers and make it a bit more grown up. bump it to a 15 atleast and get some real gritty stuff in there lol.

And just out of curiosity during the credits. Did I see Starscream fly off into space? people were walking infront of me so I couldn't tell if it was starscream or megatron was alive again??

Die hard 4.0 you could predict whats going to happen even before the movie started yet no one bashes the director of that FILM!!

i just think people are down right jealous of the success micheal bay has in holywood. his one of the best action movie director at the moment. i was talking to a mate who dont like him and he said its simply the fact that he is the most overrated director in holywoon. that kind of justifies my mates jealuousy of micheal bays success

In answer to your spoiler based conundrum, yes you did see that.

Michael Bay gets bashed not because of his prowess with action sequences, its because he seems incapable of making a film without the bog standard love story underpinning everything else and his character development is always predictable, you predicted all of die hard 4? fantastic work, all that means is you've seen the other three and know what to expect of the franchise.

There are far better action directors out there than Bay, yet he is thrown the bigger franchises because of the inherent safety of having Michael Bay above the title in big letters.

Ryuhei Kitamura, John McTiernan, James Cameron and Richard Donner are all easily as good with action as Bay.

So impressive action based scenes make a good action film, regardless of the storyline?
Thats like saying a computer game is great because the graphics are OMGCOOL.

I suppose if that's what people want out of a film then that's fine, but I find watching a film *just* because it _looks_ good boring and somewhat shallow

Die hard has had its fair share of being bashed in the past. If people liked the forumla for the first 3, you don't go and change it for the 4th film do you? People obviously just want more of the same.
Michael Bay's films aint sequels (they are usually fresh IP), but most of them 'feel' like the same film underneath.

Ahhh Josh, I wondered how long it would be before the post went off the tracks into total random pot-shots at why people don't like him
Jealous? - Please explain to me how anyone other than wana-be directors could be jealous of this guy? He's just an film director (which im sure would rank pretty darn low on peoples lists of who they are 'Jealous' of). He has a bit of cash behind him, but so do a _heck_ of a lot of other people in the world.

So your mate thinks he's over-rated (like people in this thread), and that constitutes him being "Jealous" ?
How you get to these conclusions I just don't know. They seem almost totally random with no underlying justification.
Jade Goody is over-rated, and how she got to a celebrity status, on the front of news papers, and on more TV shows than Freeview has to offer utterly bemuses me. Am I jealous of her? Am I hell....

Pah, all this bickering when you are all missing the might of intellect and artistry that is an Uwe Boll film.

Now THERE'S a director whose very name has everyone crapping themselves....

Crapping themselves hoping he won't make another moive, that is.

I'm 33, loved the toys as a kid, wasn't sure if the film was gonna be any good, and hey how suprised was I - IT WAS ACE, didn't take itself too seriuosly, lots of well done action, pretty heroine, bit of american cheese and for me loads of nostalgia - came out of the Leicester square empire £27 poorer but with a big grin

i watched this last nite, it wasnt too bad and had a few quotes from the original transformers movie.
megatron always used to transform into a gun though, not a flying thing.
i also thought he looked like the locust from gears of war though!!

I don't think I intentionally implied that impressive action scenes necesarrily made a good film....

I do prefer story driven films but I did enjoy The Rock and Bad Boys which I thought were good Bay films overall.

I could go into some monologue about the cons of Transformers but I'd rather not....

It's apparently the same guy who voiced Prime in the cartoons voicing Prime in the movies too.

The Qatar base opener was amazing, the part where all the Autonomous robots met up in the alley was a moment along with the Prime and bonecrusher scene.

I found the bit where they went to Sam's house to find the glasses stupid. That was very badly done imo

I know Scorpanok was in the headmasters series, and also in the Energon series. Although both the Energon and Cybertron series are fairly new (well 2004 anyway)

He's only been a hand gun in the G1 line, He's also been a race car/spaceship triple changer, a tank, a giant claw/dragon/bat/jet/etc 7 changer and a dinosaur in different series (RID, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Beast Wars, Beast Machines).

I can't wait to see the new film.

it would have been cool for Soundwave to have been in the movie.

It is, very possibly, the worst film I have ever seen; or at least, the most dissapointing.

    SPOILERS BELOW.

The CGI is good, but thats a given for big action movies now. Every other aspect is so bad. The plot (ha ) is almost beyond imagination - Teh Megatrons has 'crash landed' on Earth, and this old man, Icky Wicky Wicky Snr is on an Artic expidition. He finds Megatron and accidentaly starts up his homing becon thing. Then, the map thingy is imprinted on his glasses, which many years later Icky Wicky Wicky Jnr Jnr (Icky Wicky Wickys grandson) tries to sell them.

Teh Optimus Primes knows this because he seen them on eBay (no, really - Prime uses eBay baby) and comes to Earth to get the specs back. Cue the worst and most badly handled seen in the history of ever, as Prime and the rest of the Autobots go to Icky Wicky Wicky Jnr Jnrs house to get them, and go through a sort of sub-Chuckle Brothers comedy routine, so Icky Wicky Wicky Jnr (Icky Wicky Wicky Snrs son and Icky Wicky Wicky Jnr Jnrs Dad) doesn't see. Its not funny.

Also, you know how in every American film, when something happens, always the entire American Defense staff, experts, President, FBI, CIA, RAC, and RSPCA have no idea whats going on, but some goodlooking bint in a short skirt always knows whats happening, tells them but they don't believe her until much later in the film? yeah - happens again in this one. Headshot!

    Bint - What if its a robot-computer-organisismism-alien-robot-monster?
Super Ninja CIA Expert Man - No, its teh NORTH KOREANS!
Bint - No, its the thing I just said!
Super Ninja CIA Expert Man - But teh NORTH KOREANS are getting all their ships in the water!
Bint - But thats just because we are!
Super Ninja CIA Expert Man - No its not its a war! Bomb the NORTH KOREANS!

And then there is the 'romantic subplot', which (like you need me to tell you) invovles Icky Wicky Wicky Jnr Jnr chasing after this smoking piece of ass.

The best joke in the entire film is when the bint who knows everything but noone will listen to her, goes to this blokes house, he answers the door and says 'This is my place of Zen' then his Grandma shouts something and he goes 'SHUT UPS GRANDMAS!'. Like - its not his place of Zen because he is shouting at his Grandma. Get it? Yeah? Thats some funny stuff right there. Can't buy jokes like that.

So bad. Why are you all raving over this cheesy, Yankified waste of a movie?

I'm going to have a shower, and watch one of the original cartoons. I must forget this film.
