Re: Does political correctness make you angry?

    Indeed. Direct from the article:

PSCO Steve was created by the Metropolitan Police to visit primary schools but drew criticism for failing to represent London's communities.
It fails to mention who exactly drew this criticism. Not only that, but it was for primary schools and I very much doubt it was the kids complaining.

When I said policies I meant like fiscal policy or war policy... not a couple of people's idea to spend a tiny amount of money to do something that most people (including me) would regard as completely pointless

Every country is going to have inefficiencies like this... The only way I can think of to eradicate the small ones like this is dictatorship

Or actually have the people who make these decisions listen to someone that's sane.

The Australians have it right - This is our way of life, come over here and live, but live our way. If you don't like it, leave. Why can't we do that?

You go any where in American and play count the flags.
Then go to Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool and play the same game.
    It's depressing.

You will be perfect for Australia - deny your british roots and you will fit right in. "Outback" is better as well because the cities are a bit cosmopolitian.

edit - i have been there and part of their "australian way of life" is having lots and lots of American TV (weird i know...)

usxhe190 about the leaving country, i decided im leaving this poohole-country about 10 years ago before i started reading all this PCness crap, but when i do read about stuff like this, i dont just go oh thats it im leaving bla bla bla i have already decided that ages ago, stuff like this just strengthens my decision to do so and makes me feel that i am indeed making the right decision to leave. Just dont think that people are leaving because of this PCness, they are leaving because of a number of things which all add up in making the decision to leave, as theres far better places / countries alround the world than United Poodom. I can go on and on and tell you whats going to happen to this tiny country in the future and the reasons why i am leaving but i shant.

The point I was trying to make is both American and Australia, with MASS immigration in place manage to keep their Identity and Traditions very well. So it's no excuse for what happens here.

That is wrong. Have you been to Australia and America other than for a holiday? They have "identity" issues as much as here.

I don't either - that's why people in WW1 and WW2 turning in their graves should have nothing to do with why people get all frustrated about PC (personified by a white male mascot) and want to comment on leaving - although if they didn't actually see this BBC article would have never seen this mascot anyways or dealt with these weird loonies (or PC) in real life...

Re: Does political correctness make you angry?

Just what is "too male"? If they make it a female then it will no doubt be "too female"

If the fake, plastic, representation of a police person is made with a slightly darker shade of plastic, will it then be too beige or too black?

Why, when we are a country of diverse nationalities does everyone take a sharp intake of breath when someone dares mention a skin colour?

I hold my tounge a lot of the time... but one that got me last year was a production of 3 little pigs that was changed to 3 little puppies because it might offend the muslim population of a school. Did anyone ask the muslims? no.

And why, after at least 150 years of "ethnic minorities" living in the UK (which I'm sure they knew was predominantly a white christian country before they moved here) is it all of a sudden in the last 5 years that people "have an issue" with christmas?

PC has gone mad in this country, to the point where it is unbearable.
A local school has had to change their menu so as not to offend those people who don't eat pork. I wonder if the reverse would be true. Say I upped and went to live in a country where people didn't eat pork. Would the school I chose for my children offer pork so as not to offend them?

Your final paragraph is very true, and very sad, the same school has also cancelled it's nativity play for the same reason, not to cause offence to those who don't celebrate Christmas.

    Amen.

And the last part is true across the country, not just in those cities you listed.

I can see one flag from my office, atop the local castle

I hear you, I just think there is a big difference between the way we spend money on stupid things like police mascots and how people should live when coming here.

As previously mentioned, its usually people who want to find an issue in everything getting shirty about it, not the people who its supposed to offend.
