    Re: War On Scientology

    I'm also hoping that something can be done to rid us of the CoS in the UK. I'm all for picking a religion of your choosing, but Scientology is clear a big pile of excrement. How it ever got classed as anything but a cult I'll never know. As for its famous members I think they prove themselves as something short of a full load all on their own without assistance.

    Re: War On Scientology

    Scientology is not a religion. It's a cult. Name a religion that requires you to pay for courses and material before you can gain the next level in the organisation and study it further. Old mother hubbard invented the religion to get rich and that is basically what the Co$ is, it's a pyramid scheme that takes in the gullible and the weak and vulnerable. Google the name "Lisa Mcpherson" if you think that this cult is a religion or something for good. It will change your mind.

    Bearing in mind the nasty practices such as "fair game" and their litigious nature then I'm all for giving the Co$ a dose of their own medicine and support the use of peaceful methods to disrupt them.

    Operation Clambake - The Inner Secrets Of Scientology will tell you all you need to know about this nefarious organisation and their methods. "Clearwater FL" is also another thing to google - you'll find lots of craziness described by people who live there and how scientology is trying to take over the town.
    "Reality is what it is, not what you want it to be." Frank Zappa. ----------- "The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike." Huang Po.----------- "A drowsy line of wasted time bathes my open mind", - Ride.

    I think the difference between a cult and religion is really just down to size and how accepted (or traditional) the beliefs are. It is a complicated area judging by the dictionary definitions.

    Cult - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    In any case, I feel my comparison stands as it was not that long ago when Christianity rinsed the peasants of whatever they had in the form of tithe's and of course scrolls that could get you our of purgatory sooner (for the more cash rich fools). In my honest opinion if you are going to give one of them special status to be immune from criticism under the guise of 'religious hate speech' then you should give it to both. In my own view we should give it to neither, and they should both be paying bloody tax!

    G4Z - the difference between a cult and a religion is that a religion sounds better.

    You can say that Christianity is a Jewish cult if you really want.. they are all copies of another earlier religion.

    The romans copied the greeks, who copied the egyptians who copied the.... someones... can't remeber my history that far back.

    Not far back is 500+ years? how old are you? And how long is it since Protestantism started? Which eradicates purgatory and the cash thingy. Of course.. the fact they don't pay tax does help them a little..

    Get your facts right before you post.

    iranu - yep.. pretty much... add onto that fair game thing the fact that the moment they know who you are you'll get some men in black suits coming up to your house (anyone seen the scientology documentary? It's funny! The makers get this angry little man in a black suit jumping up and down in front of the camera and yelling at the doucmentary maker!!! Funny.. but scary) and trying to sue you for damages.

    Make sure you live in England, because you have the right to free speech here, and it'll stand up in court against the right to practise a (American) religion. Probably. But yet again, Scientologists have extorted so much money from people that they can afford to bribe the judges millions of pounds. So you might possibly lose.

    I would go through and correct everyone (I did scientology when we were doing "Cults and Religions" in Religous Studies) but I don't have the time, as I need to get to school in 20 minutes...

    Christianity and Scientology are the same thing in your view?

    What a blinkered, self-serving view you have. Feel free to keep raining scorn down on the
    people kidding themselves and being taken advantage of by peoples in the upper echelons of the organisations who know the truth.

    O...k..

    Where to start?

    No, the difference is zero in fact.

    The Merriam-Webster online dictionary lists five different definitions of the word "cult."[11]

    1. Formal religious veneration
    2. A system of religious beliefs and ritual; also: its body of adherents;
    3. A religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also: its body of adherents;
    4. A system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator;
    5. Great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book).

    I consider all religions to fit into that definition for cult. Besides, arguing about definition is pointless the fact is the two organisations are equivalent and comparable in many ways.

    Where did I disagree with the fact that all the abrahamic religions are copies of the same thing?

    Not sure what you point is about Protestants and the abolition of tithes, that might be the case in this country but there are still places in the world where the Catholic church collects tithes and the fact that they are tax exempt effectively hands them millions every year from the tax payer.

    Regards my age, lets just say its a long time since I had to head off to school.

    Yep, to me exactly the same thing. Care to explain to me how your irrational belief in a 2000 year old zombie son of a cloud man is any more deserving of respect than their crazy DC-10 interplanetary travel and intergalactic warlord?

    No, I don't.
    Your closed minded, pathetic, childish description of the Christian religion shows your mentality and I do not debate with children.

    Enjoy being right. All of the time. In your head at least.

    Who wants a read of the Scientologist's Operating Thetans?

    Church of Scientology collected Operating Thetan documents - Wikileaks

    Pure madness! Despite the fact that that I don't believe in god you can see that it's total dribble compared to the bible (or whatever religious text you prefer). At least the bible's got some good stories in it!

    No you are the all wise, all knowing.

    OR, perhaps (with the help of search) you'll find that I have arguing, and debated this fact in massive depth on these forums before, with more mature posters.

    As stated, I don't waste my time with children.

    No, it dosen't work like that.

    If i insult Through the looking glass, that dosen't mean i'm insulting every person who thinks its true. Not by a long way.

    The point is, the insults have a grain of truth (thou you could argue the interpretation of them is wrong).

    When it came to insults you where first.

    If someone says something you find offensive, why not reply back with some reason why you find it offensive? Or better yet why you feal the insults aren't correct.

    I'll give you a hand. Your protestant right? "as for the protestants been only 500 years old, this is because they where trying to root out the coruption that had become rife, actions that had been present in the church for a lot longer. But why does age have any bearing on the validity of truth?".

    Generally speaking, people only take 'offense' and go on with attacking with personal insults, when they can't prove a point (either because it can't be proven, or because they aren't sufficently articulate)

    See that thread of mine on wales not been a country for a good example.
