Back on topic, two completed WUs, neither of which will upload. Searching for a solution sucks

    Nope, both XP.

    Code:

I used to get that. My solution was to just leave it and it normally sorted itself out the next day.

I used to fold for another forum, but they got really nasty wanting me to leave my PC on all the time, because everyone else on the team was doing it so I told them to shove it and haven't bothered joining here, think that will be sorted soon.

Not all work units are the same.

The different clients get different WU, ones that are tailored to the advantages of that client.

For instance, there are huge WUs that the SMP client gets that wouldn't be efficient to do on the regular single core client. Like wise the GPU and PS3 clients are using stream processing, this allows for really efficient processing of some sets of data, however it isn't so good for other sets, so they only get the data they are good at.

All these WUs are worth different numbers of points. I'm pretty sure the best WU to point ratio is the SMP client. Massive WUs and huge amounts of data that take a long time to process, but you get a lot of points for doing that. So you shouldn't really look at the WU time, you should look at the PPD (Points Per Day) to see which is the most efficient method for yourself.

Someone has linked to a very good F@H blog post about all this in the past.

Well we don't care, as you're aware, how long or how often, just like, whenever you can

Re: Ok so I been slacking recently...

I've just redownloaded the GPU client

I used to use it but it just stopped accepting WU's at some point, so i gave up. I'll try again!

Just need to get some Noctua NF-S8's and i'll be able to run it overnight

Will running the SMP client at the same time have any negative effect on the rate of turning out WU's?

Re: Ok so I been slacking recently...

Currently the GPU client is the best ppd you can get if you have a duel core and a newer graphics card 8800GS or better or 3850 or better.

The post you may have been thinking about Funkster could have been my http://forums.hexus.net/distributed-...lated-f-h.html which is linked in the join the team thread.

A bit out of date now but without access to a large number of GPUs it would be hard for me to suggest what would be best anymore. Still worth a read as it tells you how all the points are calculated
