Why is drinking more water making me thirsty?

I've recently decided to drink more water, simple change but a good one!

Thing is though it seems to have made me thirstier than ever, I drink a good 1>1.5L during the day, then probably another 0.5>1L at night, I'm waking up really thirsty though, if I don't drink as much at night I wake up not thirsty, I'm confused!

    Any ideas why?

Re: Why is drinking more water making me thirsty?

I'd be interested to know why that is too. I wake up with a mouth dryer than Gandhi's flip-flop if I drink a lot of water before bed..

I'd hazard a guess at: An evolutionary thing to get you to drink more with the, obviously, readily available water.

    Not that I'm aware

But it's only dry if I drink lots before bed whereas an open mouth would be dry whatever I did/didn't drink.

Re: Why is drinking more water making me thirsty?

Lack of sugar/gum in the water, so the water washes away the natural lubricants in your mouth and throat without leaving any behind. It's even worse when you're a smoker, in my experience.

Re: Why is drinking more water making me thirsty?

Not feeling thirsty is actually a symptom of dehydration.

Don't wait until you feel thirsty before having a drink of water - take a bottle and have loads of small sips, rather than a few big swigs.

    1) Nope, no more/less than normal.

    2) No different to normal, eating a little less 'crap' (not that my diet is bad anyway) but no other changes.

The only thing I've really done is started drinking more water, weird

    Think cookie365 is right.

On a lighter note, Wikipedia "says":
    • "For severe cases of dehydration where fainting, unconsciousness, or other severely inhibiting symptom is present (the patient is incapable of standing or thinking clearly), emergency attention is required. Fluids containing a proper balance of replacement electrolytes are given orally or intravenously with continuing assessment of electrolyte status; complete resolution is the norm in all but the most extreme cases."

Re: Why is drinking more water making me thirsty?

I think you should only drink as much water as you need, eg. when you're thirsty.

I don't think it's actually been scientifically proven or fact that loads of water does you the world of good. I might be wrong though...

I feel it's a spin bottled water sellers do to get people buying after watching misleading crappy adds.
