What dreadfully neglectful parenting, amazing how people will try and shift blame these days isn't it.... So if that Google car HAD happened to be a paedophile in a car, with a camera, it would be the paedo's fault that the child was naked in a public / publicly visible area?......

Woman and story up to expected calibre though, so no concerns.

Re: Daily mail commenters not as thick as I thought!

If any of us had taken a picture of a random naked child and published it on the net, I suspect we'd at the least be looking at a visit from the boys in blue, and quite possibly be facing charges of creating, possessing and distributing child porn. Yet as it's Google, and by "accident", that's all right then.

But, of course, the obvious retort is that if the mother is so upset about her child being seen naked, then why was he playing, naked, in the front garden for all and sundry to see?

As a society, we have some seriously screwy values these days. When I was a child, it was quite common for young kids to be running up and down the beach with exactly as many clothes as they had cares in the world (i.e. none), and nobody batted and eyelid. There are certainly some pictures of me doing it, but for the sake of your collective mental health, I can say I've got 'em all and they're under lock and key. And staying there.

But these days ..... naked child playing in (delete as appropriate) pool/beach/garden etc, and you'd think the sky has fallen in.

Yes, there are paedophiles around, and yes, they're thoroughly obnoxious predators that deserve far more than they often get. But let's not get our panties too much in a bind about a kid enjoying himself that accidentally got photographed. If Google had done this deliberately, I could see the reason for complaint. As it is, the only real issue I can see is that it makes a mockery of the quality of Google's checking of images before uploading. They can blur number plates (probably automatically), but miss naked kids? Wake up, Google, and smell the coffee.

    From what I can see, she had two options;

    1. Report it using the report a problem button.

    2. Go to a national newspaper so everyone can see blurred naked pics of your son preserved online forever.

    Smart move Mum.

Re: Daily mail commenters not as thick as I thought!

As it happens I also have my picture on streetview. I was snapped coming out of my building for an early lunch (busted!). Can't say I have ever been bothered by that fact.

I agree with Saracen about naked kids being nowt to worry about, my parents definately have pics of me naked on the beach from when I was a nipper. I really don't get the big deal and even assuming some peado comes across this image (which no doubt they will now!) so what? They might get thier jollies off... am I the only one that doesn't give a crap so long as nobody is being hurt?

LOL - I know that place... it's on my mums street right up the other end

They've totally removed the street view images from the top end of the street now, probably due to this complaint.

In a similar (if slightly OT) vein, I was wandering down the banks of the Thames just outside Oxford a few weeks ago happily snapping away at all the wildlife I could see. No less than 6 times I got called a Paedophile just for carrying a long lens on a nice camera More worryingly I group of chavs and chavettes decided to follow me for at least half a mile hurling abuse, it was very unsettling and tbh I was starting to get a bit worried.

My father's also on street view, multiple shots of him following the car around his garden and peering through the foliage at them. It cracks me up every time I see it.

He's in his 70s and not naked though.

I have to agree with the views of Saracen, G4Z and mycarsavw (so's mine, btw). That's quite a stupid and worrying development to read about MaddAussie. The bloody world's gone mad, I tell you.

That's ridiculous, I hope you didn't take it to heart and it won't stop you making full use of your camera in a public place in future....
