99 years old - a good innings - he must have got something right!

and much longer than the 17 schoolchildren murdered in another massacre in Florida last week. Rest in Peace.

Indeed it isn't, but the one certainty in life is none of us known how long we have. A friend of mine died mid-30s, three young kids. Went to bed one night as normal, never woke up. Fit guy, didn't drink or smoke, not overweight, exercised regularly. A brain aneurysm got him. Autopsy said it was undetectable, could have gone st any time since childhood, or never.

It's the best argument I've heard for living each day to the max.

As for Emma, such a shame. She apparently was an exceptionally nice person. Rest in peace, dear.

Sir Roger Bannister - first man to run a mile in under 4 minutes.

One of our legendary sportsmen; he later went on to become a consultant neuroligist - a cruel irony as he later developed Parkinson's disease.

Trevor Baylis. He invented the wind up radio, originally for distribution in Africa as part of an education programme about AIDS.

The main part was a very compact spring that stored a relatively large amount of energy. The concept was later developed for torches and even mobile phone chargers!

Trevor Baylis, a true hero, brought limitless applications to life with wind up power tech, gave away the patents. Genius. Hero. Top Bloke.

The last of the musichall greats, the incredibly verstile, if zany, Sir Ken Dodd died at his home, aged 90. Somewhat surprisingly, given his success, it was the house he was born in in 1927, and has lived in his entire life.

RIP, Sir Doddy, and thankyou for all the laughter

Re: 2018 The Respectful RIP List :(

Just heard that news, I remember seeing him in pantomime (Aladdin, he was the Widow - Aladdin's mother) when I was a boy. Very funny.

Sad that he died just after marrying his long time partner, but then I suppose after 40 years, it wa only a legal nicety.

Full details and obituary here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-43367267

(Edited as the Mother's name was rejected by the swear filter! )
