The carriers don't charge that way though e.g. in the Highlands (let alone the Scottish Islands) once you go north of the River Ness (some even do it from Perth) the prices jump up.Originally Posted by deeloughran

It's true that outlying areas (Scotland included) have to pay 'extras' to receive the same product which may seem acceptable until it is discovered that the Royal Mail don't discriminate and some savvy companies use them as one of their couriers.Originally Posted by deeloughran
This is why I go to Mplex to check their prices and usually not far off (or better in the case of Hiper 525W psu) the web prices and why one has to be careful when shopping online when based here dee.
And we have to pay water charges, level playing field etc... ?

iirc they are prevented from by statute & it's one of their gripes that they have to provide a service to all even when it loses money whereas the other carriers don't.Originally Posted by geezerone
you should try between Fraserburgh & Peterhead - iirc 11 in a far shorter distance.Originally Posted by geezerone

Whatever the reason, Royal Mail still deliver cheaper than other couriers so should be used.Originally Posted by BUFF

Mainland UK is consistant however.
We dont charge any extra at all for delivery to anywhere Mainland UK , the system is worked out on weight, not area,
Also the reason for not using Royal Mail, is that we used to on a few occasions send stuff out using Royal Mail, and stuff just went missing, on Special and normal delievery ..

City Link are normally 99% ok when delivering items to me. Only been the odd occurence when things have gone pear shaped, even so, it was soon fixed. Scan are very fast at delivery i find. Probably the best around.

I also think if you introduce more couriers and options you are asking for more potential problems.
If you have one system - and one process thats the best way.
Delivery time. It normally seems to take 3 to 4 days before the item is even dispatched! (and I'm normally someone that likes to get things asap). The postage costs also seem unacceptably high (which is what I've heard from friends for as the reason they've never used Scan). Take eBuyer for instance. For a small wireless card it would cost £2.70 postage, with Scan is costs £7!! eBuyer's low priced delivery method is slow (i.e. ordering on Tuesday gets it there Friday) but Scan's is misleading. It claims next day delivery, but they wouldn't actually dispatch it until thursday anyway so you still only get it on Friday meaning you have paid nearly 3x the postage cost for the same delivery time. Hence why no-one I know uses Scan.
But you get free carriage?
Also we never state delivery to be guaranteed next day delivery so I am unsure how this can be misleading?. If you select “Standard delivery” then we will give you an Estimated Despatch Date, which we will of course aim to achieve and you will be sent emails to confirm each stage of the order process as it completes successfully. Once the order has been despatched from Scan, Citylink then guarantee next working day delivery between 9am-5.30pm. Isolated problems here and there are an unavoidable consequence for any company dealing with such high volumes of deliveries, but we believe a company really shows its worth in the way it deals with issues that do arise.
We do offer guaranteed next day delivery options ( Which are not covered under Hexus FOC carriage), more information available from the Delivery link via our web site clearly stating our delivery options.

so how many people do you know......Originally Posted by Enverex

Fair enough for orders under £20 the delivery can be a little pricey - but this has already been justified by the guys at Scan. But to be honest £20 isnt exactly a bank breaking amount, why not spend that £7 delivery on stuff and bump your order to get free delivery if your so bothered.
TBH people who moan about Scans free delivery should have that privilage removed

No, I don't. i.e. for instance at the moment I wanted to order a wireless PCI adapter (and one of those jet-flame lighter things to bump up the postage slightly for feeling guilty about free postage although I can't really afford it due to being almost broke) but it doesn't reach £25 (which I wasn't aware the rules had been ammended, and to all those that say "well if you were an active member you'd know" well why would I keep reading a static thread that I'd already read?) thus I don't qualify, and apparently another new rule is that my postcount will be reset to zero so I won't qualify on more than one count now.Originally Posted by ChrisP
Your site states in the section when you get to choose the delivery (pickup or normal) that once it is dispatched it will be next day. That's fine, but even if you read back through this thread people say about scan's delivery being better because it is next day, failing to acknowledge the fact that there is a long lead time on it being dispatched. It may be written, but people aren't seeing it.Originally Posted by ChrisP
That's irrelivant as you yourself were using the countering argument that the postage is free and what you refer to now isn't included in the free postage anyway and if the standard postage is £7 I dread to think how much the "guaranteed next day delivery" will cost.Originally Posted by ChrisP

Well first I need to spend more than I want to qualify for the free delivery, second it will take what, 4-5 days to be delivered anyway? I could just order from somewhere else where it may even cost less, wont cost anywhere near £7 for delivery and thus still come better off and likely have it earlier.Originally Posted by johnny02004976
Glad you're so accepting of critisism and people that think there is more to this than a company just "being nice" as we all know that is never the reason.Originally Posted by johnny02004976
