I have my doubts about how well we will do in the next round, but if we can play badly and still win two matches, we should be great when actually on form.
Like Beckhams free kicks and corners? (last night)Originally Posted by Lee @ SCAN

All dire, but i don't see that being mentioned, why? This is a team sport but one man(and Hargreaves when he plays) keeps getting mentioned all the time. Its about time these armchair pundits changed the channel, after all Crouch is the best striker England have at the moment. IE he's scoring goals. I don't see Rooney on the score sheet. I don't see Owen on the scoresheet. I don't see Walcott on the scoresheet.
Show me a striker who hits the target at every attempt, you can't. Even wonder boy can't, but he's not labelled dire. One man does not maketh a team. There's 11 men on the pitch. The team was dire.
Indeed. The air was blue in my house after the 3rd freekick Beckham took and just planted into the wall.Originally Posted by beanbandit
England seriously need to "step up the gears" and play better if we have any chance of even getting near the quarter-finals.
Sweden next - Let's see what this one ends up like
Oh and on a lighter note - I bet Crouchy needed some Ralgex or Radox after last night ;

Does anyone else get the feeling that England are almost deliberately putting in the minimal amount of effort to win?
Maybe it's just me clutching at straws in the hope that they're saving themselves for the better opponents in the later stages.
i think part of it is psychological, in that they know in the back of their minds they should win the game (and quite comfortably), so that they are not fully pumped up and end up strugling through.
At least I hope so, we'll be torn to pieces if we play like that against better teams.
That they did. Lets hope we win our group (if you didn't know, if both us and Argentina top our groups we could play each other later on). The problem is, if we come 2nd in our group we will probably play Germany, if we beat them we will probably get Argies (assuming they go through), so lets hope we do step up our game as both are bogey teams could be next!Originally Posted by Steve A
Admitedly though, S&M did lose Kezman at 3-0 so heads dropped even more than usually they would at 3-0.
Brazil (without Ronaldo) need to play Argentina cos i reckon that would be a good match...
Arg looking the best team by far...and Messis back now eeeek
Heads up guys!
It could be worse, we could be the French right now.
On a more serious note. I thought the French were cheated by referee's and linesman's failure to spot the 'goal' that was never given. Similarly, the decisions & lack of consistency by the referee in the Italy V USA match was terrible.
FIFA should really take a serious look at these games. There needs to be improvements so the game isn't ruined by incompetent referees.
...Did'nt we have a poor start in '66?
Agreed France were very unlucky the ball was clearly over the line and the linesman should have spotted that,Originally Posted by frumpet
The referee's are clearly inconsistent and the standard could definitely be improved. You could argue different refs between different matches may result in different decisions; however during the same match decisions are not consistent. E.g Portugal and Iran, FIGO was clearly kicked in the face by the Iran player and even had stud marks on his face! yet no Yellow. Later another high challenge received a Yellow.
There is a list of other similar issues with dodgy “reffing” that needs to be addressed by FIFA especially when these dodgy decisions may cost a team their place in the next round.
I might get my butt kicked by all English men/women, when posting this
But I hope that Sweden will kick England tomorrow!!! But seeing as that would not be an enough reason to kick my butt, since then both England and Sweden would then go on together .
Well, I hope it goes well . I'm currently sitting watching: France - Korea, right now it's 1-0 to France. And it's been around 35 mins.
Good Luck Sweden

Moonshade, i know we haven't beaten you since like 1968, but this time im pretty sure we will Not being biased or anything but you guys haven't looked all that good this tournement, it seems like you cant even buy a goal (until the last minutes against Paraguay). Same for us i know, but i think we played slightly better than you have so far. Willhelmsson and Kallstrom look the best imo.
Well id say good luck, but, im too patriotic for that So COME ONE ENGLAND!
