Well, i have looked into a lot of 17'' TFT monitors and for my price range the AG NEOVO F417 Comes out at the top of the pile. Very good reviews indeed. I will probably go for this one. Also, the price of it at the moment is really good at one PC supplier!

Believe it or not I still actually prefer gaming on my 22" CRT as opposed to my 19" TFT.

The reasons are basically due to the resolution I can run the CRT at - usually 1600 x 1200 with a nice high refresh of 85, whereas the TFT will only run 1280x1024.

Yes theres 2 lines across the screen on this but hey, I hardly notice them at all.

Now - if there was a nice 19" TFT or slightly bigger with support for 1600x1200 thats reasonably priced I would happily replace the beige monster

Yes Jo but how much did you have to depart from the wallet to get that ? Maybe over 500-600 pounds?

I'll wait until they get to at least 300 pounds before I buy one

I want Dell to run the fantastic discount offer on the 2001FP again - I picked up 2 direct from Dell with 3 year warranty and delivery included and they are fantastic (20.1" screen, 16ms response, 1600x1200 native resolution, DVI-D/VGA/s-video inputs, picture-in-picture).

I got the pair for about £700, but their current offer price is ~£430 (each) atm.

first time you've put a price cap on what you're saying, though.

bear in mind 17" CRT means '17" tube, about 15.5" viewable' - whereas 17" TFT means '17" viewable'

£160 is almost (but not quite) enough for a reasonable 17" TFT, like an iiyama e431s. CRTs i can't comment, as personally I can't use the bloody things & wouldn't know how to identify one as 'good'

I'm with WM here too.. I actually bought the Dell 2405FPW a few months ago, and within a week, it was back on it's way to Dell for a refund. Not because it was faulty, or overwhelmingly pants in any way, but:

    A) it didn't come close to the contrast/black level/gamut capability of my old 17" Trinitron CRT.

    B) Motion blur effect. I know some people say they can't see it, and others say they don't care about it. I couldn't understand why anyone would buy a half decent graphics card to give nice juicy framerates, only for it to look all blurry and nasty because the TFT panels pixel response time still wasn't good enough to give crisp, ghost free motion.

Plus the fact that things look worse if you want to run games at anything other than the TFT panels native resolution.

I'm aware that some other panels are better for certain things, but I for one won't be leaving the world of CRT just yet - I've got my eye on a secondhand Iiyama VMpro or Mitsi Diamontron 22"...

    Still undecided.

Can someone recommend a very good 17'' CRT that has a flat panel, superb picture, short neck and is around £140 max. Ta

I stick by my previous post ^^^^^^^^

Will be far better than a TFT and cost less. Can pay a true fortune for a true professional grade CRT (if you've ever read MacUser you'll see monitors with black shrouds, very very expensive pro monitors - calibrated perfectly for design). You could easily calibrate one of the above suggestions though.

many things like motion blur are subjective, personally it makes me feal ill when I see it. Another one is the 50hz/100hz on tvs, some people really cant see the difference.
