    BF2 + Gamespy?

I've heard rumours that Battlefield 2 is bundled with some spyware called 'Gamespy'. Is this true and if so, how can I install the game without it?
    Thanks

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

It's not spyware, and you don't need to install it anyway.

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

Yes I'm serious and no, I'm not incredibly stupid. No need to be nasty Georgy, I only asked as I wanted to be sure I wasn't installing some sort of malware on my machine. You want to check who you are calling 'stupid' as I'm certain I don't fall under that category - I'm curious and I found this forum is a good place to ask. I'm fairly sure people happy to help. I'm certainly happy to help others whenever I can, even if the answer seems obvious. I'm also polite AFAIK and I welcome people to tell me if I'm not,

I ordered BF2 and a few of my friends told me to not install it (Gamespy) because it's spyware/adware. I wasn't entirely sure they were right, which is why I asked. I also googled it and found scattered rumours of 'BF2 with bundled spyware' but I didn't find much consistent info. Thanks for answering guys.

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

    ^ Well said that man.

BF2142 is the game with the bundled in-game advertising

BF2 is fine. Once you've got it, post up your username here, there's a few BF2 players still knocking around, but most have moved to BF2 mods (AIX, PR, etc)

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

Thanks mate. When I searched, I did notice lots of results for 2142. BF2 was highly recommended to me by a friend so I finally decided to buy it. It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll install/patch it and post my U/N. I ordered the complete collection from play.com for £9.99 - good deal IMO. Could you post the links for the mods if you have them, please so I have them ready for when I get the game
    Thanks

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

    AIX - www.aixtended.com/

Adds new maps, weapons and vehicles and a more tactical mind is needed to get the best out of it. Not quite as spammy as vanilla BF2 (vBF2)

    PR - www.realitymod.com

Aimed more at those who enjoy milsims. Used to add a touch of reality to a very vanilla game but has got a little OTT of late. Be prepared for 3 hour rounds and a lot of tactical planning - very realistic and you'll find yourself immersed in the action. Not as easy to pick up and play though.

    Re: BF2 + Gamespy?

Thanks m8. They sound like good mods, especially the reality mod.

Edit: Pretty big files! I'll wait till 9 so I don't hit the VM speed cap lol.
