This is true, I don't think there is one that I didn't find entertaining.

Oh, Dr Strange needs to be watched as well, but that wasn't the one I was thinking of...

Edit: Haven't seen Black Panther yet either. Dammit, that's a lot of films to catch up with.

Edit 2: Oh yeah, I've only seen 2 of the Spiderman films, the first 2 Tobey Maguire ones. Are they still classed as MCU? How many more does that make it?

Nah none of the old spiderman/blade/x-men films count. I've just done a little search on wikipedia and yeah, you were right; 18 films not including Infinity War...

Is SM Homecoming MCU? This is getting confusing...

Re: Your most recently watched movie/film?

Watched Paddington 2 4k on Saturday, with my boy. It was very entertaining, Hugh Grant camped it up very well. The way the boy was laughing pretty much all the way through, I think he enjoyed it too. 4k presentation was superb, one of the best I've seen. 9/10

Also watched Thor: The Dark World, it was OK, some humour there, but one huge bugbear, that you may have already seen mentioned. YOU DON'T GO 3 STOPS FROM CHARING CROSS TO GREENWICH! 7.5/10

I'll warn you about a film not to watch, Genesis. I remember when Sci fi had as it's themes; the aspirations of naturally inquisitive humans, the psychological effects of leaving the home planet and how humans and AI interact. But this stinker is the radical feminists' text; ie: white women and ethnic men as AI robots decide to eradicate the unworthy human race. It could be argued that political correctness and radical feminist nonsense could ruin every genre, a bit like the Borg, you will be assimilated into it's boring conformity.

Saldos>'Isn't it all in the eye of the beholder.
And more to the point, is the media of film going to last?'

It seems more appropriate to look at this here. Yes which film you like is subjective, but there is a general consensus as to which are the greatest examples of the art form. And the point about auteurs is that because they have obsessively absorbed the language of film from previous great directors, usually written the story and have full control over how the film is made and who is involved, that their art projects, are very different to a director drafted in to make a movie where profit is the sole motivation.

I think film can go any of several ways, it may become a fading form of media. Or a new type of film may be made(remember that Star Trek laid down many of the future inventions). So a sort of holodeck senario where your character can interact within a film scenario. I think the leap from passive observer of films, to interactivity in games and film VR scenarios, is one possible future.

    Here's a jolly clip about auteurs>

I really don't get why Americans are obsessed by comic book heroes, does it express some inner insecurity? Or maybe an inability to grow up.

I've watched two very different films about AI recently; Ex Machina and I just watched Her. A lonely man falls in love with his AI OS, brilliant and moving examination of contemporary life. I enjoy sci fi that's set in the near future.

These ideas come from his book 'Everything you wanted to know about Lacan but were afraid to ask Hitchcock'>

I watched the 4k version of The Fifth Element at the weekend. Really good picture for a 20-year-old film, no excess grain, the HDR pass really brought out the lurid colours on the costumes, particularly on the ship. What amazed me is how much of the story I'd forgotten, it was like watching a film where you've only seen a few trailers. Bonus! 8.5/10

An upgrade in tech is; like re watching a film, or re hearing audio. Besson has made a bizarre range of films, but his sci fi is spectacular in terms of the visuals. I saw that Valerian film a while ago.

I like a film that addresses possible developments in the future, but also has a reasonable plot. I just watched Otherlife; scientists and coders try to create virtual experiences directly in peoples' minds. They start with ideas about virtual holidays and adventures, helping those in comas, etc. The government sees the potential in virtual solitary confinement for offenders within their own minds.

    12 strong - 6.5 of 10, I would say

    Den of thieves - 7.5 of 10

Can't wait to see Fahrenheit 451. I think when the original book was conceived, it was mainly aimed at the rigid, unchanging right but in today's social climate it is the left who will loose their minds and will try to have it banner. Is it wrong to find that entertaining?

You might want to hold off on 451

Last movie I saw was probably Dunkirk in the cinemas Was a very good film and seeing it on the big screen made it even better (Thank you Wuntu for the free tickets). Next movie I plan on watching will be the Godfather remastered as its on Amazon prime.
