    What's your router's uptime?

    Most of us don't run home servers, but we do run routers.

    So, if you have a router decent enough that they had the guts to put an uptime counter in it... spill... how long has yours been up since its last reset?

    For my Draytek Vigor 2910VG, it's 22days, 16hours, 39minutes as of this post. That was probably the last time I did a major settings change on it.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    less than 24 hours using the Speedtouch VOIP ADSL2+ router supplied by Be There (Thomson ST 780WL)

    The new router is a useless Piece of plastic and orange/blue LEDS and is constantly overheating due to the wireless. This means all connectivity within the DCHP range goes down and I have to do a HARDWARE reset via the switch as opposed to the "login" reset which locks the router up all the time. I had to restart it last night at about 2am.

    It seriously is too hot to touch at times and the plastic smells like it is burning but it's not.

    It always needs a reboot at least once a day.

    Before this my Asus router was steady for months on end with no lockups.

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    Vigor 2800 was regularly giving over 2000 hours, but since upgrading to firmware 2.8 it reboots every time I log in to the web interface from a newly re-booted PC! (Linux or Windows, Firefox or Opera) Wierd or what! I currently have a support ticket with Draytek about it.

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    Work - 87 days, last reboot was following a firmware update

    Work server coming on 600 days (Novell 3.12 - yeah, laugh it up, but it's solid)

    Home - gets switched off after every use - the wife hugs trees, therefore so must I.

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    Around 2 days, I had to turn off the power to rearrange some wires.

    Until then, since I got it...so around a month and a half I guess, lemme go find the uptime thingy in DDWRT and I'll get my current one more accuratley!

    Edit: here we go: "2 days, 18:03 " - so closer to 3 really.

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    My Netgear WPN824 was switched off last week, as I thought it might be at fault for my laptop not seeing it (it turned out to be the lappy's fault), but before that it had been going rock solid since I first plugged it in, roughly 12 months ago...

    I can't understand why people need to keep rebooting their routers, am I just lucky?

    (edit: I suppose it has been off a few times, when I've turned the power off on that ring main for other reasons, but I've never had to reset it).

    Re: What's your router's uptime?

    I can sympathise with those who have to turn theirs off sometimes to let it cool down, my old Voyager 205 was like that aswell - it got silly hot!

    My 58d uptime is with the 780WL from Be. I don't use the wireless too much (wifi is so awful) but it is enabled all the time and it's in a very hot and stuffy room, heats up loads but never fails. I think mine may well be upside down (I never need to go check on it...) because the air vents are on the bottom. Try doing that or using the supplied mount. If you look on the Be forums there's a nice little VOIP port powered fan mod some people have done.
    The smell is pretty normal IMO, I find that most electronics that run very hot stink for a bit.

    With a small hardware appliance its fine to just leave it up all the time
