Tiscali have not even upgraded me to 1Mb yet, they have been promising since february. Last month I barraged them with emails and phone calls and they gave me a free month, not bad since I am still paying £24.99. They say they can upgrade me faster if I have a new contract for £16.99. That has a 30gig limit on it. I dont think so my contract is the old one for unlimited usage. No chance,I like the wording in my old contract and I am not about to be locked in for another year. The sooner I can escape the better but until they implement the MAC system we are all stuck unless you want to be left without broadband for weeks while they get round to releasing your line.

if i were you i wouldnt hang up until they gave it to me, as i said in my last post. it make be an attempt to keep customers by putting them off changing isp by saying theres a 3 week waiting period. Call them up and dont hang up until you get what you want!! also request the cost of the call to be debited back to you as they wasted your time. hehe

With communication skills like that you'll go far

You are probably confusing the poor sod at tiscali helpdesk ( which isn't in Wolverton , but it is in MK ) buy calling it a MAC address. A MAC address is the term for the physical code of your networking kit ( NIC / Router etc ). Its got naf all to do with DSL migration.

The MAC system for DSL migration is quite new - prior to that there was no system at all for it. Not all ISP's sighn up to it afaik.

With business clients who have a phone line just for the DSL I'd usually recommend that they get a new line put in , and get dsl on that for a seemles migration.

otherwise there is nothing you can do - you wont get any free access out of them , not matter how well contructed your rant is.

nb. I do not work for Tiscali, but I do know how DSL support works.

You could also try to ask for a CBUK number , its not quite as seemless as ther MAC migration , but shoudl give you less down time.

As Tiscali is primarily a Datastream ISP, it means that you probably will not get a Mac Key. Currently Mac migration is only supported for IPStream to IPStream products and thats same speed to same speed (although depending on the ISP, they will manually upgrade you after the migration).

BT were trialling Datastream -> IPStream migration but you know how BT likes to drag its heels....

Only thing you can do atm is do a cease and reprovide as many of my customers have had to. The joys of budget/poor ISP...

aye - you pay peanuts , you get monkeys.

This is why I recommend ISP's like Zen. This kind of problem just doesn't exist with them.

think about it the next time you choose to save a couple of quid a month on your DSL.

Rabs is right. My bulldog connection was datastream and I had to wait for disconnection and my line to clear before I could change to Homechoice. You don't get mac numbers for datastream connections, even if you swear at or threaten them!

The older your connection, the more likely it is to be datastream. You will have to break your connection with tiscali. They may well not be being stupid.

You can't have had it that long then.
My first DSL bill was around £40 a month. Pipex where the first to drop it to around £25 / month.

When the new products where launched the cheap providers came in.

You can change , but you'll have some down time whether you like it or not.

the ONLY way you'll have it seemless is to order a 2nd phone line with a new product on it.

I'm afraid you'll just have to deal with it.
