My folks are on 10mb as we never changed it when i moved out, however there only getting 5.5mb, so going to downgrade them to the 4mb package.

As regards to ADSL Max, i find my upload very good at 834 and im happy with my 6mb down

Im on NTL:Telewest 10Mb - speedtested with and capped at 1200KB/s which is nice - using a Linksys WRT54GL Router with HyperWRT & Thibor 15c firmware

Pings are always good, I have no problems at all gaming, I mainly play Eve Online and BF2142 - no dropouts

Been on Telewest since the old days of Cableinet.

Pretty good service, rarely have any problems (I think two ~3 hour outages in the 6 years we've been with them)

Im a bit worried about the traffic shaping trials they are carrying out, and Im hoping they make NTL customer services better, rather than the other way around. But all in all they are decent. Certainly better than most other providers around now.

I'm on the 10 Mb NTL service and it's been pretty poor in the last two or three months, I think due to traffic shaping in the area.

There have been lots of complaints on another forum from others in Glasgow so we must be one of the areas getting shaped. Then again I do know that Glasgow is currently overloaded so might just be contention ratio?

I'm thinking of downgrading to the 2 Mb service as there's no point in anything higher if they're traffic shaping now. I'm lucky in that I can also get ADSL so have been thinking about changing over but I'm waiting to see what they're going to do when the new 20 Mb speeds eventually come in.

im in glasgow and the service has been noticeably more unstable. especially around 4am, when things start to go pear shaped.

its steadily getting back to normal for me though

I'm on 4Mb telewest and it's been faultless, except one night a couple of months back when Telewest braodband was down for a few hours across the whole of Lanarkshire.

Apart from that, perfect, fast and no caps.

    My System: Coolermaster Centurion 5 (black) case, Intel E6750 Core2Duo, Tagan Easy-Con 530W, Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI, OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC, Samsung SpinPoint 200Gb SATA2 / 2 x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200Gb SATA, 256Mb Sapphire ATI PCI-E X1950PRO, Creative X-Fi Xtreme 7.1, 19" Daewoo W9ZQ Black Widescreen TFT, 4Mb Virgin Cable Broadband (formerly Blueyonder) with Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G and DD-WRT firmware.

I'm on telewest 10mb atm (and since they are owned by the same company should all be the same ) and its great. Get 1.4mb/sec download speeds off fileplanet 99% of the time and we have stuff downloading all day and night, never had any bother with 'fair usage'

They are trailing for 50mb starting in the new year which I think we are part of

I've got the email ready if they ever bring in traffic shaping in my area. There's absolutely no way I'd accept it considering how much extra cable customers pay.

I'm on NTL 4MB and was on Telewest 4MB before that, and I've not had anything but excellent internet service in almost 3 years.

The TV's not as good - my old Scientific Atlanta Telewest box was a bit flaky, but the new Samsung NTL one seems better - although the NTL On Demand isn't nearly as good as Telewest's yet...

However, when my last bill, for 4MB internet, basic cable TV (with On Demand), t/phone line rental AND calls was about £16, I can't complain..! (NTL have messed up somehow - I'm not telling them)

p.s. I have never seen any traffic shaping on my 4MB, and I've downloaded several GB per month for several months in a row, both on Telewest (NW London) and NTL (St Albans).

So on the whole people are happy with ntl/telewest then

I can't wait to get away from adsl, it's underpowered and over priced for what you get.
