Doh! Missed the new PSU bit. Yeah has to be mobo, but it's still possible it was killed by the original PSU.

aye forgot to add that, don't put your new mobo on the old PSU, until you can guarentee that the PSU is flaw free.
what PSU is it (i.e. generic or corsair, seasonic etc etc?)
is the PSU hooked up to a surge protector?
what county do you live in? (im sure there will be a website for national grid stability and power surges caused in the area and also storms)

ASUS P5E X38 Motherboard

Motherboard light is permanently lit.
Cannot see any damage to capacitors, but I am not so sure that I would be able to spot it.
Both graphics cards work in other PC.
Maybe reseat heatsink/s?

One last question... I had a RAID 5 array and a RAID 0 array on that motherboard... will the new mobo pick up those arrays alright... I shouldn't lose any data? It's ICH9R... I know that nForce 3 RAID stores RAID info on the drives and not on the board.
FIXED!!! Just reset the CMOS and it was totally fine... wish I had thought of that before physically removing everything from the PC case! Ah well, much better than having to send off for an RMA...
good to hear that you've fixed it.
i'd presumed that you'd already tried clearing CMOS, my bad
