The Corsair does look good i have to say if a little to big.
The main problem with the CM690 is it kept dropping HDDs because there wasn't enough room between the rear of the drives and the rear panel, causing power connectors/data cables to come loose which is rather annoying

I have to admit, i didn't realise that it was THIS big...

Neither did i, i may have had second thoughts about buying if i had realised, but aaah well, it's too awesome to go back now

As ive just got paid and ive not had to fork out for a new replacement PSU I was wondering what made you decide to get the Laing DDC pump? ( it is this one right? http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/cust...at=1191&page=1 )

I can afford £70 for a new pump but ideally looking for a quiet pump for silent/near silent operation aswell as acceptable performance, D5 (mcp655) or the ddc seem the best options. Also if getting that one i linked to are you gunna change those threads to 1/2"?

Cant wait till you setup that WC loop, lemme know how quiet that pump is in operation because I may bag that with a top .
I got my bits today and i ended up with the swifttech branded one mcp355

As to the thread size, the following piccys will show what happens

So my box of goodness arrived from Specialtech:

    The Dual bay res top:

    Pump (still with top on):

    RASA:

TOPLESS, WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!:

    Fitted to the res:

Showing the black Ali front of the res (also comes with a silver Ali cover):

I might change the socket caps for socket buttons, as the caps protrude somewhat...

    45 degree rotary compression fitting:

The rads currently being flushed with deionised water, but i don't think i bought enough so i'll have to wait until the weekend to be up and running

    Re: Corsair 800D, Watercooled log

Halfords good place for deionised water, only like £3 for a good 5 or 10l .

Ah i see! (i think you mean mcp355? the higher ddc version 18w). So that res, is it a cut in for the pump or is it literaly sitting underneath it and poking out? I was thinking of getting a dualbay res aswell with my WC upgrade later on this year.

Honestly that looks nice so far, I have been reading that the mcp355 is the louder pumps out of the 3 (D5/ mcp350 10w version and this one) so I will probably just save some more cash and buy the d5 later on, however they are all good pumps so really.... good choice .

I think so far Im gunna just copy you and buy almost all the same things as you, albeit the case as i think thats to much out of my budget xD. However i will look for a case similar to it with a nice brushed black finish so i can use the same bay etc.

    Keep the photos comming!.
    PS: cheers for the cds

It's a dual bay res (size) but the actual res is just about deeper than a single, so the res and pump fits inside the dual bay dimensions

The D5 Vario is quieter than the 18w up to about 4 out of 5, then it's louder.

    It's 4.98*

    Re: Corsair 800D, Watercooled log

well when i went I7 i imported a shedload of koolance gear and save quite a bit over uk prices, so im now thinking of importing a pair of 480 blocks, and the top 2 items from this page http://www.koolance.com/water-coolin...t.php?cPath=69 along with a couple of flow meters.

this way i can have the pumps spin down when at idle as the 2 18w ddc pumps kick out quite abit of noise, nothing like air cooling but i would like my new setup to keep its gob shut when surfing

I thought it would be that, Not sure if its a good option for the bay then cause how much of an effect would it have on cooling performance as apposed to dual bay?.

Also, sounds bought right then because the d5 is volt regulated and the ddc isnt so running full pelt all the time . Now atleast i know what my project will be later oN!.

I'd very much like to see some pics of this when complete
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

The size of the reservoir has such a little impact on cooling performance it's not worth worrying about.

really? Hmm i wont challenge your knowledge , although cooling performance between a res and no res is a big impact correct?. I guess i may get one of them then because having 1 and a bit res along with a pump right next to it reduces the restriction as theres less tubing.... i think!.

Now the first thing i need to tackle is my case haha, new thread will be popping up soon lols.

Hmm, no not really. The difference is still hardly anything (from tests on XS and personal experience). Just alot easier to bleed with a reservoir!

There will be less restriction yeah, but again nothing major.

Just noticed this is taktak's thread!

Very nice so far, hurry up with the water!

the ddc can be controlled, hence me wanting the koolance kit to monitor and control the pumps

the d5 on the other hand needs a hand in the case with a screwdriver to control it.

A gentle breeze from Noctua Mountain
Softly blows o'er the drive bay.
It fills the case with air that is cooling--
Waiting to blow your worries away.
It isn't far to Noctua Mountain
And your fan blows over the rad .
The winds of night so softly are sighing--
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea.
So close your eyes on Noctua Mountain.
Wave good-bye to cares of the day.
And watch your fan from Noctua Mountain
Blow far away from boiling drive-bays.

Eeee gads i'm bored :/ (From a well known film if you havn't guessed )

Poor piccy for Hicks to show the pump in the base from the back, nice and flat as Peter said :

    In the front:

The drive bay mountings are dire, they can't hold squat... Exceedingly poor given the price...

One slight problem that has stopped me, one of the collars is damaged, the threads appear to be clean but it fails to engage on the fitting fully, i've tried on other fittings and it is the same, so it is definitely the collar, so i've sent a message to Specialtech to see what they say, i can't really do anything else now though

it would probably be fine, but i'm not risking it...

Also what is with the fan screws with the thermochill rad? How the **** are you supposed to use them? The head is too big to use them as they say and they are too short to make their way through the full fan

    Re: Corsair 800D, Watercooled log

i think its the noctua fans to blame, i had to notch out my fans to take the rad screws.

It might just be the picture but it looks like you've used a little much thermal grease on the graphics card components.
