    Moar pictures!!

    Right, tapping the thermochill rad to M4x0.7 (bye bye warranty):

    Well an M4 Skt cap threads in :

    M4x30 = perfect size:

    Carry on:

    4 done:

    One side tapped:

    All 24 holes tapped:

    A couple of sizes:

    Showing compression fitting with/without collar for Nibbler:

    In the roof:

    Cables all over:

    I think i'll get a 6 channel fan controller purely for the rad, i also need to stealth the DVD drive as it looks shoddy as it is right now

    I'm thinking this Lamptron: http://watercooled-pcs.co.uk/en/fan-...p-fc0022h.html

    Tapping the rad just makes the threads wider?

    As default the rad is shipped with just drilled holes, that have been drilled to No6 UNC diameter (which equates to ~3.5mm ish), so they just supply the rad with self tappers (6 gauge) which cut their own thread as they enter the metal (hence the name).

    By tapping the hole out to M4 (which is 4mm diamter with a thread pitch of 0.7 for a standard metric course) it allows me to use a much wider scope of mounting options, it isn't such a problem in the USA as No6 UNC is quite common and thus easy to source fasteners for, but the UK market is completely different nowadays with metric taking most of the market share.

    I didn't have to drill the hole out first as it was already 3.5mm so i needed a 3.3mm hole really (drill size = diameter - pitch) and if i had drilled a 4mm hole the bolt would just pass straight through being 4mm also

    So really the reason behind the tapping is that i can get hold of M4 parts much, much easier, and allows me to have a wide range of heads to choose from rather than just a standard self tapper pozi/slotted pan.

    your warranty will be fine as the holes are untapped

    you have to tap them with a self tapper or a tool so no worries

    Re: Corsair 800D, Watercooled log

    Decided i might aswell tube most of the loop and just have the one length left to do:

    Pump-->Rad-->CPU-->GPU-->Pump

    That way the CPU is dumping it's minimal heat onto the GPU rather than the other way around

    By my reckoning having the bay-res top for the pump will remove the chance of cavitation occuring and thusly avoid any damage to the impellor?

    Re: Corsair 800D, Watercooled log

    If I am understanding what that means, then I agree

    Are the angled compression fittings a must or are they just better in terms of reducing the chance of kinking?

    Thanks so much for being patient with my questions, I'm enjoying learning about this

    You've hit the nail on the head

    You can just use straight fittings but with angled fittings you can reduce the chance of kinking by offering a straighter path for the tube

    You could use 90degree fittings but they do have quite an impact on flow (as it essentially just hits the corner and has to build up momentum again

    So 45degree have the large benefit with only a slight reduction in flow

    You're a mind reader you are

    I ordered it about an hour ago from Tom, as well as a black SATA cable (to get rid of that red one) and a Zalman fan controller (aluminium front).

    I just need to mod one of the blanking plates into a stealth cover for the dvd drive

    I can't remember what colour i ordered though :/ i think it was black spiral, but it could be UV blue

    does the manual say its ok to put the card in the bottom slot ? 9 out of 10 say it should be in the 1st slot for best performance ?
