Here are my two areas, both shown in action, no tidying up ...

Upstairs office, with PC, small LCD, HF rig, 2m/70cm rig and ATU, my new anti stat work area, Marantz amp and NAD tuner underneath and my glorious Tannoy Saturns on tasty Atacama stands.

Due to an impending Mini-Me I've had to abandon my office/study/man-cave and move into a more 'bijou' under-stair setup.

And before you ask, no I am not an Apple worshipping hipster (We have an iPad, that's all I'll allow in the house and even that's getting binned for a Nexus) I just like a clean, tidy and stylish setup. By God it doesn't half attract dust though!

My Desk.
New build with genisis cooler plus 3x bitfenix 140mm fans, 1x 140mm exhaust fan, 3 x 140mm top fans, 1 x 140mm internal fan blowing on to graphics cards and 2 x 140 mm inlet fans to front.
fans conrolled by 2 x Nesteq max zero. settings all F2, whisper quite.

Did try to put the 5th leg on, however, it is as you said cardboard in the middle, and something else reinforced around the corners of the other 4 legs, so can't actually tap screws into the middle.
Sturdy enough with 4 legs, i hesistate to sit on it, as it could lead to tears
