Stick to 939...there is plenty of life in the chip yet, especially if you decide to upgrade to dual core in the future, they will be cheap when conroe come out and they are great chips!

there isnt actually that much difference between am2 and 939 prices at the moment
    am2 system:

    AMD AM2 Athlon 64 3500 Orleans Core, 2.2GHz, 512KB Cache, Retail

    £81.49 Inc VAT - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=401097

    MSI AM2 K9N NEO-F NF550, Socket AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

    £58.92 Inc VAT - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=398863

    430w Tagan EasyCon - TG430-U15 - 2Force Silent Modular PSU

    £55.10 Inc VAT - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=241237

    1GB Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15

    £54.23 Inc VAT - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=232553

    = £249.74
the easycon psu was cheaper than the 2force one, went for a tagan one as they are very popular but a seasonic one should be fine (and its cheaper).
edit - if you change to the seasonic psu it will be cheaper than the 939 system above, bear in mind that there will be price cuts to the 939 range when conroe is released

thanks guys, im still undecided. Does the motherboard need SLI as the am2 doesn't have that and the skt 939 does. what is it btw?

    thanks

SLI is Nvidia multi-graphic card solution, if you're on a budget dont even think about it, it's too expensive and unless you game on crazy res you wont need that. I'll go 939, it's tried and tested and is great. No noticable gain on AM2 and im not sure how future proof they are.

    Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8

If that DailyTech article about AMD's price drops are to be believed (referred to in http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=77768), then the price drops will be applicable to both 939 and AM2 parts.
However, having said that, I'd say that if you are a novice, then it may be better to stick with 939, as it is simply, as Hans says, a more mature solution, so you're less likely to come across any bugs.
For the value solution that you're going for, I'd imagine there would be zero performance difference between the two.

If you go into device manager, you may be able to manually reinstall the device drivers by telling it to search for new ones on the CD that came with it. That should allow your pc to start producing sound

    Hi

    I was wondering which GCard is better;

BFG 256mb 7800GT (has a silent thing on the card)

    or,

    MSI 256mb NX7900GT

    thanks
