    Sound card
Thats pretty well done for a first time budget build. Congratulations - sound components. If you look on the Scan forums there will be a sticky to show you how to get free delivery. http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=72583 - there you go

Assuming you mean the firewire (1394) cable to the back (usually with some USB ports on the same back plate), then the motherboard manual should tell you that one. It'll be downloadable from ASUS in PDF form if necessary.

There should be 1 or 2 6-pin (2 rows of 3 pins) connections from the PSU. Plug one of them into the graphics card... you can't get it mixed up with any other cable. There's an outside bet that it could have a standard 4-pin molex connector, but it's unlikely (in that I've no idea if such a graphics card exists in PCIe form).

    ok,

i turned the power on at the back then press the power button on the case. The fan to the pus starts moving and a green light comes on the motherboard and thats all that happens??? The fans to the cpu and gcard sort of twitch (move slightly) when i turn the power on at the front of the case? Any ideas why its not working? Dont want to pay some guy to look at it if all it is as a connection problem.

I have three cables from psu into motherboard (one into a black 4 pin socket, one into a 24 pin socket - actual wire is 20pin?, and one into a white socket (rectangle) with four pins)

I have on psu cable to both dvd rom and dvd-rw and i have on into the hd

I have another cable into my gcard (black box, 6 pins)

What seems to be the problem?

    Please Please Please help

    thanks

    James

sounds like you need a 20-24-pin converter

it should be ok to use on that board

edit: ok the white one is an aux molex for the sli slots

Assuming that everything is working, then the next step is to install your operating system (eg windows xp)

it should beep before the monitor comes on

presumably it doesnt because theres no video

check the ram and cards are all in nice and tight, check the jumper settings on the motherboard

disconnect all the unnecessary stuff and see if you can get it to work that way

Try using the standard plug without the adaptor

all you need is video, cpu, psu, mobo, 1 stick of ram (keep it to 1 stick only even though you know the ram isnt the main problem)

disconnect everything else, try replacing with other components if you have spares like you did with the ram

try the psu in your other computer, by just connecting it to the components listed above to save time
