    Re: EVE-Online

hmmm, ok, I guess it comes alive a bit more at higher levels when more variety is introduced into the ships & fittings. I do prefer the 'twitch based' type of play though I guess its personal preferences. I prefer space sims to LOTRO or other 'fantasy' games.

    Re: EVE-Online

Fitting in EvE is Endless, a 25 Million Battle cruiser could take down a 200 million Command ship (despite skill points) If the Battle Cruiser was fitted to resist the Command ships weapon Damage and the command ship had little Resistance against the Battle Cruisers weapon damage.... then its pop goes the Command Ship. Rare I admit but possible. And you would find that skill does come into it, know your ship Know your Weaknesses Know your enemies weakness. This is skill, and try keeping at optimal range on your target while keeping out of his buddies scram range And at the same time make sure your drones are dealing with the stupid Inty that will not give up.........

    Re: EVE-Online

Tried it now and then for 2 months before getting very bored of it, it's like someone deliberately set out to create a game for the kind of people who wear star trek pyjamas or live on 4chan. Numbers, stats, boring boring. "My particle beam hits your Frickin Drive!" "Combat" that consists of clicking on things and where you want to go - there isn't even an option to steer yourself, what a joke. And if you want to spend swathes of time investing in politics you'd be better off doing it with the real thing, where things actually matter.

    Little update on the invasion.

-A- is pushing their counter-attack hard. So far nothing decisive, we still hold the 4 systems we conquered at the weekend and thousands of dead on both sides, good fun. 2 more I-hub's coming out today, one during our prime, one during there's. Should be more good fights, not over by a longshot yet.

Nah, I get the point totally just don't think it's one worth pursuing. Games for me are something you play to have fun, when there's a ridiculous amount of planning involved it's more like work. Life is complicated and dangerous enough without needing to engage in an alternate version.

Don't get me wrong though, I do realise it's cleverly put together, but it really seems more true to the "virtual world" concept than a game to me. Probably a good educational tool for people with no other responsibilities - especially for those inclined to be gullible or people who want to brush up on planning/organisational skills (or accountancy ). It reminds me a little of finance types playing the kind of model soldier board games - dreaming of adventure while immersing your life in banality so much that even your idea of fun is more of the same.

    Re: EVE-Online

Depends on your concept of fun. Sure the instant gratification of turning someone's head inside out with a shotgun can be fun, but they respawn and don't really notice other than having to run for 30 seconds to get back to where they were. Now, don't get me wrong, I play lots of FPS and love them, but no single one has kept me coming back for nearly 3 years.

When the penalty for death/failure is something that took you a great deal of effort to attain the stakes are higher. Thus, the elation of victory is more intense and the sting of defeat greater. I have heard people wooping with joy and screaming in frustration over this little game of internet spaceships. I have had people scream at me, smash keyboards, beg for mercy, threaten to hunt me down out of game and even call me a hero, when a plan has come together. This emotional investment makes the game very enthralling. Knowing that when you hurt or help someone it's permanent and because of it's permanence it's far more involved, feuds are personal and friendships strong. There's no restarting, loading or finding another server.

This elation/sting can often be shared with ten's of thousands of people. That is what makes this game fun for me. Leading a thousand people into a battle with these stakes is a massive rush, I used to get this rush from leading a 16 squad in a clan match, now I want a grander scale. This is the worlds biggest game of chess, and every pawn is a person.

I doubt in 2 months you ever scratched the surface of this side of the game and that's fine. If you don't want a game where gratification can be months or even years away, that's perfectly reasonable.

You can say that about every game ever created. Is 2 arbitrary teams rushing toward each other in an endless cycle of imaginary gunfire any less banal, or did you just come to this thread to try and make the point that because you don't like this game everyone who does, is 'sad' or 'uncool'?

If so please just leave us to our banal spaceship game

    Re: EVE-Online

    Another update.

Out of the 4 I-Hubs reinforced earlier in the week, the last one comes out tonight. This one is on it's second and crucial RF timer. The last 3 have been saved convincingly. This should be the climatic battle, we are expecting a massive deployment from -A-. It's right in between our prime times. Numbers will be huge on both sides. Gonna be fun

    Amarr Victor!
