    So... nubcake question time

My name is Splash and I tried Eve once, about 3 years back. It scared the living poop deck out of me. I'm thinking of giving it another whirl - any pointers that you care to give out?

EVE is a lot different to 3 years ago, it's a lot easier on newbies now and the tutorials have massively improved.

Best piece of advice I can offer is join a proper corp. On hexus there's my corp B.B.K which I'm CEO of and Eckhuah of which Agent is CEO.

    Re: EVE-Online

First system secured in our campaign.

Triple A came, but were understrength. 400+ sniper fight on the gate. Not got a full K : D report yet, but we held the field and from what i've seen they lost a lot more than us.

90mins til the next system is secure expecting a stronger attack for this one, they're coming on prime TZ.

    Amarr Victor!

EDIT: 2nd system taken. next 2 an hour away, no sign of renewed resistance.

EDIT2: All objectives secure. Phase One complete. 4 new systems for Provibloc.

http://killboard.fidelas-constans.co...d&kll_id=14534 Battle report of the only battle from our point of view, doesn't show blue losses or -A-'s total size(they didn't kill enough). Fun though

    Re: EVE-Online

You guys made a great impression on FCON last night. Out of the 3 corps interviewed, you guys are firm favourites. Vote will be later in the week, I dont think you'll have any issue getting in.

Sorry i wasn't there, I was up all night invading catch, meant to stay up all day but made the mistake of putting some faithless on and closing my eyes for 5mins. 7hours later Slayer woke me up.

Sleeping in an office chair is really bad for your back btw

    Re: EVE-Online

I reactivated my account the other week, rejoined red vs blue and I'm having a laugh churning through cheaply fitted cruisers and frigates. Though the funds are running dry and I'm going to have to start getting my standings up for some mission running

    Re: EVE-Online

I decided to give the trial another go. I think the tutorial is much more interesting now then when I last tried it out. Quite enjoy it though the combat system is still rubbish. Will play it for a few weeks and see how involving it becomes.

    Re: EVE-Online

Yes, the tutorials have improved a lot over the years - I started late august 2008 and even since then the tutorials have improved hugely!

So what problems are you having with them combat system?

    Re: EVE-Online

I just prefer a twitch based (ie skill rather than lock on and just wait for laser to recharge) combat system. Not many on the horizon that look promising though. I think Global Agenda has such a system although don't like the look of the game. Jumpgate Evolution has it as well but never seems to be near launching (currently estimated for June 2010 but holding my breat on that). Not sure what else. Mortal Online and DnD also have skill based combat but not keen on either of those.

I might choose to go the way of avoiding combat rather than worrying about it too much though.

    Re: EVE-Online

tbh I prefer eve's combat as it means that someone with a £200 is on an even playing field with someone with a £2000 computer (unless you are involved in a big blob, in which case the £200 would struggle)

    Re: EVE-Online

Do you not find it a bit 'top trumps'? ie whoever has the better ship will always win (unless you go round as a party). Maybe it's different in larger battles but in the early part of the game its quite tiresome. Quests to destroy a pirate or whatever arent going to get the blood pumping too much when you can see you're easily going to beat them with a few clicks of the mouse.

    Re: EVE-Online

It is possible for smaller ships and less skilled players to kill the opposite, it all comes down to tactics and fittings. Obviously the skills you learn play a part, but they are not the be all and end all - there are lots of long time players who can fly bigger ships, but are useless in PVP due to their fit/tactics.

For example people have been blown up in command ships cause a frig warp scrammed them and their weapons, although powerful, were too slow to hit a fast moving frig
