Do you have a joystick to use? The right kit makes it a lot more fun.
Otherwise, note that there is an "insurance" figure for your ship. Make sure you have that much funds available at all time.
When you first start, your ship can only jump a short distance, a better frame shift drive makes a huge difference to where you can go.
It takes a while to get the used to things, hang in there. If you get into trouble, someone here can probably help you out.
No joystick or hotas. I am looking at getting the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4. I currently have Xbone & Steam controllers.
TBH I found a keyboard and mouse better than a controller but joysticks are king. (choose your own personnal preference)

Watch lots (!) of tutorials before diving in. Do the training missions. Join a private group with someone off here and learn the ropes. Going into Open mode without a clue will probably leave you being seal clubbed - there's just as many people looking to kill you as there is to help.
The learning curve is steep - no two ways about it, but it's rewarding.

The story arc surrounding the Unknown Probe just got interesting. It appears to interact with the Advanced Discovery Scanner.
The Dev's hinted that the UP requires external software in order to decode. So, someone's dropped the audio into a spectrograph and the following pops up:
There's lots of supposition that it's similar to the Voyager probes that we sent out, perhaps showing us where it came from. Other ideas suggest it's a map of Merope 5c (where the probe points to) and that the line at the bottom right is significant. Interestingly if you put the centre at 0,0 degrees, the two bottom left lines point to Barnacle locations.
I think something significant is about to happen for sure!
And I still hardly have any of the materials I need for even one upgraded component yet Give me a chance to catch up devs!
I found a weird glitch make money quick thing like that other one i posted ages ago. Head to MAIKI, fly near 3 C and visit Unidentified Signal Source (ignore anything that says convoy or weapons fire detected), there you can find Precious Gems which you can sell with 60 000 credit profit at black markets. Theres an outpost at Alpha Tucanae (barnard) thats close by.
I've made around 20 mil since yesterday and will most likely have an anaconda within the next few days.
Is much in Elite actually fun?
