I doubt it will some how, As when it goes live some kickstarter backers will get a choice of a better ship to begin with.
No - it will be a wipe before Gamma release, but all your controls etc will be kept, Just stats that get wiped.
Before taking off, I lock on to the next system. Then I take off from the pad using vertical thrusters until I am in line with the "letterbox", throttle up and keep to the correct side of the exit (with the green lights on). As soon as I am close to the shield, I retract gear to speed up some more. When I am exiting the shield I am normally at full speed. I get a few seconds away from the station to avoid the metal bars, slow down and turn towards the system I need to jump to. Then I hit boost, disable flight assist to keep full boosted speed until out of range of the station to allow hyperdrive jump.
The first time I was ganked, I was returning to the station before she could finish "shield offline". The second time took a bit longer, but I couldn't out run, or out turn to assailant.
As for being in Anarchy zones, I guess my noobiness shows here, how can you tell? Does the game tell you when you jump in to systems where PvP is allowed, like Eve when you are warned jumping in to low or null sec? For the record, I believe both times I was in Eranin, which I think is the starting area?
KD does need to be online yes.
Sounds like you're doing it 'right' in terms of boosting away at full tilt - I'd suggest leaving the throttle up and weaving/jinking as well to make yourself a little more of a difficult target. Hopefully this won't be a huge issue in the future since the station Police will sort this out but it's not active at the moment properly.
The anarchy areas are listed in the Galaxy view (LP98-132 for example) and as you jump into the area on the bottom right of the front panel is a screen that tells you the allegiance of the current sector of space.
Let's all try and join Teamspeak where possible? Having a 7 month old really restricts gaming time
That's a bit of a piss take. Aren't people paying 50 quid to get in?
What is?
beta progress not carrying over
Well, it's £50 all in yes, but that includes the actual release at £35. So you're paying £15 for early access/testing. They're suggesting that the stat wipe will be required in order to 'start' the universe and reset the trading routes etc. I don't mind tbh, gives me chance to figure out quick ways to make money so that when it counts I know how my time is best spent.
OK, so following on from the Rift thread - tell me just HOW cool voice control is? Sounds damn impressive.
I'm determined not to pay in to the beta test because I don't have enough time to play all the games I do have without spending £15 extra to try to find time to beta test, but this sounds amazing....
As an aside, I'm currently fulfilling my Elite jonesing in a slightly unusual way: I've bought myself an Android gaming tablet (the JXD S602B, in case anyone wants to know) and pulled the NES Elite rom down from Ian Bell's website, so I'm playing the NES Elite emulated on a 4.3" tablet! It's fantastic
Elite Dangerous out of the box doesn't respond to voice, it's a third party program called Voice Attack which does the business:

It just happens to work extremely well with Elite. Also 'beta testing' isn't really what people are doing now, most of the serious bugs are sorted. Yes there's a few but nothing that's a total show stopper (if you ask me). Whilst it's far from complete, there's a decent enough gaming experience to be had.
There's lots of third party stuff being adapted for Elite. Loads of people are using iPads as touch screen surfaces to trigger commands and all sorts.
