Cheers abaxas. I've not even installed the game yet, I plan to waste away some of the bank holiday getting up to speed with it though.

Once I am familiar with the very basics I will take you up on your offer and start building a trading empire, trotter style!

They added an extra option a while back so that you could drop cargo without it becoming stolen on pick up (cant remember what the menu option is called but its in the same list as jettison but not jettison as that still means that its classed as illegal on pick up). Preliminary so actual players could trade with each other.

Someone did it to me, so I thought I'd spread the joy to other newcomers. It should mean you have enough money for a 4x silver run from LHS 3447 to Eravate. A few of those and you'll be trading gold, a few mote paladium.

Few hours later you'll have 70k in the bank, just like me. I'm going to do a few more runs, get up to 150-200k then buy a hauler so I can vastly increase the profit per run, but also keep some back for emergencies

I forget the commodity but there is a 1k profit on the run back too (4 cargo bays).

    5k in 10 mins. 30k an hour.

You only need 60K to get a basic Hauler plus insurance and a D rated FSD.

    http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=60V,5Q...c,03w03w7Og2Uc

That doubles your hold to 8T now, room to expand to 16T later.

Another hint: If you sell the sidewinder, you only get back 90% of its value. Sell upgrades first to get their full value, then either store the hull or only lose 10% on the hull value.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

That is exactly the plan. When I have enough money for the hauler and cargo >4 + 20k emergency funds, I'm in.

Then at least when I get interdicted I'm not totaly fooked, just slowed down a bit.

I guess, if all goes to plan, one night's play and I should have a cobra! (for my journey to Lave).

I always have shields on my ships for that reason (and clumsy landings) and have yet to lose a ship due to interdiction.

4 pips to engines, boost, boost, jump, byebye now

I just hacked off the local rozzas due to 2 player kills. I foolishly took a 'kill traders' mission and won't be doing that again without something that doesn't just fart on a Viper's shields.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

How man buttons to bind???? *Swoons*

edit: after alot of playing / remapping I have the flight controls mapped. And i have done the first 2 tutorials....and I must be missing something. Surely it can't be this hard?

I have thrust mapped to the throttle stick, and the yaw / up down / roll mapped to actual stick movement... Is it simply a case of practice makes a better pilot or have I made a mess of my mapping? I feel like I am forever trying to get the target ship on tutorial 2 into my sights!

Also, what are the must have bindings in your opinion?

I play with a mouse and keys. Took a few hours to get used to it, but it's fine for now.

Thinking 360 controller is the way forward.

I didn't think you owned your first Sidwinder? However, that tip is good for any ships when you upgrade; sell the outfittings first. You can then also buy them back on the new ship (if they fit).
Keep an eye out on the Bulletin Board for any wanted stuff, as you can get double the price. I got very lucky with a Palladium one just as I was looking to upgrade to the Hauler, so I had the cash necessary to buy it in the first place. I think I made 40k+ from that.

Depends on what your are doing, but for me: -

    Landing Gear
    Supercruise/hyperspace toggle
    Galaxy map (shortcut)
System target list (ie, the LH screen) - also needed for communications for docking requests

I mapped my flight controls the same as a flight sim and had no real problems. I know some people swapped the yaw and roll around. Just remember to have half throttle (so it is in the blue bit) for maximum maneuverability. I wouldn't worry about using thrusters to start off with in combat but they can be useful at an intermediate stage.

    Practice does make perfect.
However - Look at your throttle slider. Notice how there's a little blue zone, usually about halfway up?
Keep your throttle marker in that blue zone and you'll turn faster.

Also, consider altering your power distribution balance to match what you're doing - ENG for higher speeds, WEP for more sustained fire, SYS to get your shield powering up quicker.

Must have bindings on a stick, IMO:

    - Primary Fire/Deploy Weapons
    - Secondary Fire
    - Boost
    - Thrusters/UI Menu/Freelook
    - Power Management

Just about everything else can remain mapped to the keyboard, but anything you may suddenly need instantly or without having to look down should go to the stick/HOTAS.

On that stick I had the following IIRC:
    Fire 1 & 2 on trigger & stripy button
Target ahead on 3 (the one on the top front of the stick)
    Cycle fire groups on four
Thrust on Hat. (don't bothe rwith forward)

I then had the throttle in forward only mode (the notch is then bluezone rather than 0)
Then from memory boost, gear, supercruise next hostile, previous subsystem and UI focus on the base.

I then had modifier combos set up for next subsystem, previous hostile etc and the rest on the keyboard.

You do lose out a little from having no reverse throttle but even with the HOTAS i still only have a button mapped to it. I find digital reverse works fine.
