I used to have the BBC version a couple of computers ago, ran great in emulation under Win 2k on ... hmmm, was probably the Athlon XP machine. I've got the NES version at the minute because I have an android gaming tablet, so I get portable Elite And actually I really like the NES icon system (although things like ECM are harder to get to - requires a bit more planning).

Both David Braben and Ian C Bell have declared the NES version their favourite, so I don't think I'm being too unfaithful

Used to play a lot on the Archimedes at school, and those solid polygon models are really pretty, but given I mostly game in bed on a laptop nowadays the old school keyboard controls aren't as convenient. If I ever go back to having a gaming desktop I'll probably get myself a "proper" version, but for now a portable NES will just have to do!

Mind you as you know I'm a bit of a purist hence why I have so many classic computers now, only resorting to emulation if I can't get onto the 3rd floor or disappear into the bedroom without the wife griping at me. Best Elite experiences are definitely on computer over console, mind you the NES version does have it's merits, easier to actually get into without having to learn all the keyboard shortcuts.

Isn't that how the majority of MMOs work?

TBH, I don't know any more. It's usually being debated in some corner of the internet, over whether numbers, paid subs, server resets or whatever else actually defines an MMO versus an MO, etc.

It used to be that an MMO would have a massive number of players, with everyone (or at least many of them) all interacting at the same time, such as with Eve's 60,000+. Instancing and shard-servers just make it a standard Multiplayer Online game, as the players are split into smaller, easily managed groups. This latter point has been used to dispel the idea that FD and SC are both MMOs.

I don't really care over the exact definition either way, TBH. I'm perfectly happy just meeting the occasional human as I bimble about the galaxy.

The binding for super cruse is now different also. I was trying to run away from a Pirate and kept pressing the wrong button. Super cruise didn't have a key binding set so chech that before you start.
I think the rate of Piracy has gone up a notch too.

Indeed. I'm using the time to get things set up in time for launch. Basic flying and frame shifting, getting key binds sorted (want to set up some voice commands too before launch), comfortable with trading.

Would have liked some more combat experience before things get real so will probably concentrate on that for gamma.

I really hope we see a big step in issues being covered off in the gamma, not sure how much confidence it gives me that all the tickets I had raised about various things have just all been closed without action being taken. Might end up just re-raising them if things haven't changed (plus not sure I wanted to spend all my time re-running the same tests just to see which ones are fixed or not).

Pretty sure you are, Michael Brookes said in the last couple of days they're expecting to wipe for final release. I'm a bit gutted about that.

I have heard this too. Sounds like a little pressie for all the Beta backers/testers. A small head-start for the release.

I know there's been a number of people who have recently lost interest based on the loss of offline SP, but the Gamma build is out now. Not going to have time to play this weekend myself, so keen to hear form those who are playing.

I've tried to give it a go a couple of times but server crashes have meant little joy.
One things for sure, there's now alot more smaller stations the majority of which don't have ship upgrades or a shipyard. So finding your upgrades and new ships might take a bit of looking for.

Server crashes eh? Not seen too many of those in my (albeit time limited) beta testing, so that bodes ill.
