Any idea's how I can get a good focus in a dark room with things lit by light? What settings do I need to change?

One from the Burj al Arab last night
Far too noisy as it was hand held. Must borrow a tripod from someone
Most of my other shots are of exotic cars (it's sick what you see over here!) - Clicky for the shots taken whilst out here.
Ohh, and JBR, at night, feels more like a tropical City 17 from Half-life 2
^ i stayed next to JBR this xmas gone, ahh bringing back memories
great shots - i couldn't get a decent one of burj al arab
St. Anne's Cathedral, Belfast
Not wanting to state the obvious, but what's wrong with the D40's AF lamp? It works fine for me!
Torch works fine as well
As for taking better photo's, you're lucky that you've got such a small SLR. I can pop my D40 into my coat pocket with no problems and just generally take it around with me. If you take it EVERYWHERE you go then try to take as many pictures as possible and you'll get better in no time. Part of it is learning to see what makes a good photograph - there is a fine, fine line between a good photo and a photo that stuns you. Plus, take 5 more photos of every shot than you need. At the end of the day, you're more likely to have keepers that way And with memory so cheap, why not?
that cloud has a shadow!
great shot of BB!

One from saturday...
was being lazy and only just edited today...

something i'm experimenting with, i took around 40 pictures over 30minutes as the sky was getting dark and made this very roughly in ps. it's very tedious doing it by hand and it's not very smooth in the transition...
if anyone knows of a good way to do this i'd be open to tips!
