Thanks It was a blue pencil. I'm pretty impressed with the lens, but it's bloody hard to use as it needs excellent light, has a very narrow depth of field and is a bitch to hand hold.

Is it advisable to use a flash with this? I'm stuck with my hotshoe gun (no remote), but can't seem to get the timing right for the flash to be any use. Would a reflector be a better investment?

I took quite a few macro shots the other night of a few various items around the house and just used a lamp. You can even buy daylight lamps for £60ish and they work perfectly.

Didn't have a tripod, and I think I may have slightly overdone the tone mapping...

Your pics look ok but I am certainly no expert. I really don't know what I am doing with this HDR pics yet but very impressed with what can be achieved . I can see me using a tripod a lot from now on .

P.S. Had bought a new 'remote' for the Canon but have mislaid it -very annoying indeed.

cheers, I did try a few other images on the shades but that worked best. I think if i reduced the opacity of the layer it then it might look a bit natural just seems a tad bright!
ah well, thanks for the comments

    Re: Photo-a-day

Ramedge ... that's some great shots, especially the second one. That wallpaper is perfect for a very popular contemporary style that seems to be doing the round at the moment.

Thought the head spot in the first shot was a little too dense though, although the interaction and composition are great. I'd have liked to have seen the same spot effect as in number 2, with the wall highlight seperate for the spot on the subject.

I think number 3 is great, any chance of seeing the original? Or an edit with something less cliche than blue skies? That's a great picture, and could be sold on a dozen different themes through a stock site, using a dozen different photochops.

Care to share the setup for the shoot? What was the camera + lens specs?

    Very nice.

    The original

The shot was done a bit randomly. I was at this guys house, I am producing his album (hes a singer / guitarist, you'd never of guessed by the guitar )
he asked if i had my camera with me and i just so happened to have it with me so i just grabbed it from the car and we just took the pictures in his lounge.

I stuck my flash on my tripod (wirelessly triggered) , I moved it around quite a bit so I couldnt tell you exactly what I did with it. You can kinda see what position I had it in from the shots. I was experimenting quite a lot with the strength of the flash and bouncing off walls and facing it directly into the shot.

    Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Tamron 17-50mm all shot at f/2.8

And thats about it really thanks for the comments

    heres one more.
