You make opinions like it is fact. There are people who are religious and people who are non-religious that are contributing to science (whatever forms of science you are thinking about) than you ever will. You can google that.

It was like that in the past, it is happening right now and it will happen in the future and that's my opinion.

By same token, there were, are and will be religious and non-religious people that are "holding back" mankind.

It was only a short sermon, not a 15-part lecture series.

The facts speak for themselves, the problem is the religious ignore facts and bury their heads with ignorance by default, they bury their heads in the sand much deeper when they feel like their superstition is being threatened.

'Intelligent' design, and climate denial isn't science.

I've yet to see, hear of, or read about any non-religious person burn a scientist alive for asking questions. It still goes on today, only the stake has been replaced with the media and funding.

    What facts am I ignoring?

'Intelligent' design, and climate denial isn't science.
    It isn't my religion either.

It still goes on today, only the stake has been replaced with the media and funding.
So you seek to redress the balance with a stake of your own via forums?

The only way you can state these untruths about religion is to invent your own definition of the word that contains on the small minority that conform to your distorted view of it. In which case, as I've said before, you should clearly add disclaimer that your opinion on Christianity or whatever is exactly that, your own viewpoint from the outside. Would it be acceptable for me to present an incorrect viewpoint of an Atheist without stating that it's only my opinion and not based on real knowledge?

Far from burying heads in sands, I am at least willing to listen to your opinion rather than continuing to ignore it, as you have done when these points were already addressed in the past.

From your response, I can see you know nothing about this world and the people and so all the best.

I'm not stating my opinion, I'm disseminating facts that you're conviently ignoring, like all good Christians do.

Christianity retarded, and held back scientific progress for a millennia by persecuting and murdering people who attempted free and open enquiry of nature and of God. They set great works of knowledge ablaze and reduced it to ash. That's not an opinion, that's historically documented fact.

I'm ignoring that no more than you are ignoring the history of mankind and the damage it has caused regardless of religion.

Similarity works of religion and science have been set ablaze by non-Christians, yet Christianity was vitally involved in the advancement of science in the history of Europe as well, with an open enquiry of nature particularly encouraged.

    Re: Religion to be extinct

Rubbish, liberalism and the decline of religious persecution against free thinkers enabled science to prosper. Hence why science took off in protestant countries first.

The enlightened philosophers that flourished and created our modern science were themselves religious for the most part, believing it their divine purpose to carry out such enquiries.

That a political change occurred and enabled more freedom of enquiry is not a reflection on religion, just that of political organisation. Don't confuse 'The Church' with 'Christianity' or any other religion. Religion existed long before these organisations, and will probably exist long after as well.

    Re: Religion to be extinct

*Everyone* was 'religious' in the medieval era. If you weren't, you were branded a witch and burnt. Just because Einstein was a Jew, it doesn't mean Judaism is responsible for relativity. That's absurd reasoning. It is individuals which thought about the problems they solved, not religion.

It was 'The Church' (which at the time *was* Christianity) which repressed free enquiry and philosophical debate, just because they stopped butchering people for questioning doctrine, it doesn't mean they enabled science.

Einstein the Jew = Einstein was of Jewish (racial) descent. Not that he was a follower of Judaism, which he wasn't. These philosophers on the other hand were not racially Christians, they had a personal belief in God.

It is individuals which thought about the problems they solved, not religion.
Indeed, though in this case they often believed that their religion was the reason they conducted said enquiries.

It was 'The Church' (which at the time *was* Christianity) which repressed free enquiry and philosophical debate, just because they stopped butchering people for questioning doctrine, it doesn't mean they enabled science.
You're still confused, sorry for not being able to explain it better. Christianity was and is far more than just the Roman Catholic Church. The latter is an organisation, which we believe at the time (and possibly still does, depending on your viewpoint), misunderstood Christianity. Back to religious education and misunderstanding which we were talking about earlier.

Roman Catholicism is a subset of Christianity, and the *only* Christian faith which remained after the followers of St. Peter established the Church.

And that makes you think it is soley and wholey representative of all religions worldwide, past, present and future? Or do we need to replace all instances of 'religion' in this thread with 'the roman catholic church in medieval times'?
