Perhaps you should take your own advice - you've been just as flippant in your responses and, in any case, he had a valid point. It does rather seem like you've got a fixed view on what muslim women want despite evidence to the contrary (as seen in the show where one woman commented that she didn't like the idea of 'bits hanging out' (a la slappeur)and being objectified by her relative beauty to others). How many do _you_ know? And how many said to _you_ they felt oppressed by their religion?

Exactly; Koolpc's committing the error of assuming that the views that he agrees with are true and valid, whereas the views that he disagrees with are not. Noting that discrepancy is very much "on track".

But then a Second Muslim came and argued against the first in agreement with john snow. So its not all Muslims that want to live under shiara rule in this country. Maybe Dangel could come and describe that discussion better than i just have
Oh cheers for droppping me in it lol! You've more or less said it - a passing by muslim heard the ridculous statements and had the bottle to speak up against the guy. The interviewee wasn't exactly credible in any case - he was spouting fairly extreme views without really having much to back them up with. In addition, I seem to remember Jon Snow found out he'd had the benefit of living in the uk (free education etc) prior to become a (relatively) radical muslim which left a rather gaping hole in his arguement.

I think the point is that muslims (like the vast majority of us) aren't exactly happy with the way our society is going - and who could blame them at times?

Right; as I noted above, there're enough non-Muslims in the UK who'd like society to change direction - and the views of those people may in some respects be quite similar to those of a lot of Muslims. Koolpc also seems to be assuming that in order to be a traditional Muslim, one must automatically be an immigrant. Not that being an immigrant should be a bar to having an opinion in any case, but that rather overlooks the fact that a lot of traditional Muslims aren't "coming to this country"; they were born here. They ARE "native brits".

my go (and with history of totally failing to win any arguement, it should be easy to nail me down and then corner me and then make me wear a pillar box dress)

I watched the program from beginning to end because it interested me, and because John Snow seems to convey most things pretty well.

The discussions with reference to wearing or not wearing a burkha (sp?) and the face cover (name evades me, sorry) for me was meaningless.

I have no interest at all in whether some of my neighbours wear a tent, a yellow wig, or face paint. (though you can bet your ass if they wore an Adolf Hitler outfit all around town, they'd get linched by someone or other, but that's kind of another discussion)

What interest me was the following:

Are ANY muslims of the opinion that 9/11 and 7/7 were even remotely acceptable? It seems that a few found it at least undertandable. I worry

Are ANY muslims interested in changing the laws in this country, being a minority? Yep, though to be honest, we do the exact same thing in their countries onthe odd occassion.

Did the average interviewed muslim think the same general things all across the UK? ,,and this is the biggy for me....NOPE. They don't have the feintest clue, as a community, as to what is right, worng, vulgar or acceptable, bang out of order or 100% holier than though.

But then.....do we? Conservative and Labour rule are fairly different in many ways, and so would be virtually every different group of muslims who arrived at a rule of law.

It was a great potential program, but frankly, it answered not many questions...and why? Becuase right now, there are no answers.

What do Muslims want in Britain? No idea....cos they don't know any more than we can agree on whether nVidia or ATI will make the next best video card.

It almost seemed like a let down by the end. I'd seen John Snow struggle to interview a girl as her face was covered, I'd seen a dude in a white tent sat on a park bench totally fail to defend his own arguement (must have been my twin brother, mentally) when asked about using the UK schooling and social services to fund him up to his decision to change his entire opinion of life (as Alah clearly poaid for his education, not the british tax payer) and then another bloke happened to wander past and join in, who later showed up and spoke like the managing director of a large multi national.....while playing table football and telling us he was working hard.

I also heard the best question of the week, asked of a taxi driver who clearly must preach to his fares:" Do you feel you're becoming segragated?" and he said "I spend most of my time with the kids and the missus and my parents...yes"

Bit of a waste of licence payers dough to be honest.

Bush! Gee, if ever there was a war mongerer it was that idiot.

Seen lots on the net about the Towers being planted with explosives etc. What a load of rubbish.

As for the thread topic, i can only comment on what people have told me about what they think of wearing traditional Muslim letter box wear. I work in a University and know and have known, lots of muslims. Lots of different views amongst them too. At the end of the day it is up to them what they wear, and it is up to us, as individuals with free speech, to have our own views on the subject, be them right or wrong, popular or not. No need for some people on here to go attacking any of us because of what is written. This is a discussion forum so lets just keep it like that without the harsh words.

Well you know what they say - opinions are like @rseholes etc..

Today we've got a bunch of animal rights nutbags protesting in front of the company on the other side of the estate - are they representative of the vast majority of white christians in the uk? God I hope not..

Now THERE'S something we agree on! If it wasn't for that little "régime change" adventure that he insisted on kicking off, in the process creating a MASSIVE security vacuum into which Al Qaeda gratefully dribbled, we MIGHT have had enough troops to properly handle Afghanistan, where there actually WERE terrorists before we went in... *shakes head*
