I don't know why there aren't exceptions for people who have an english parent - I thought the test was aimed at first generation immigrants to help them integrate into society?

Where is the planet Zog? Is it near Birmingham?
Heh I'm going to try that on the inland revenue. Can't pay taxes until you prove I'm British
Seriously though, the guys nearly retired, he's worked, lived and paid taxes here for the last 60 years.
A friend of mine who is South African, lived and worked in this country for 10 years, is married to an Englishman with 2 children who were born in England, had to take a citizenship test.
The test cost about £34 and if I remember rightly she also HAD to buy a booklet for about £60 aswell as alot of faffing about. Good job she could rely on friends to baby sit the two small children or that would have been more money.
The whole system is ludicrous. But hey that's what happens with a Labour government; spending and bureaucracy go through the roof.

i think its fair enough. how do you draw lines on these things? if someones been living here 20 years? if that's the case, someone at 19 years 300 days isn't a citizen by default..
if it could be used to chuck out that orrible clerik bloke you'd all be cheering
