Unhappy Re: Scan to split Intel Quad Q6600 GO Stepping CPU's !!!

I'm just a bit concerned about the apparantly high demand for the Q6600, I'm lucky in that I am able to build myself a new system just now and I'm drawing up my shopping list for the best comprimise between value and perfomance. This is why I think the Go Step Q6600 is on my list but so far only Scan seem to be even acknowledging their existance never mind offering any for sale which makes me think there could be a stampede when they get stock.
It would be nice if the pre-order was re-activated then I could at least know I can a place in the queue.

I wouldn't worry too much. There is plenty of stock, it's just simply a case that at the moment that stock is still the old B3 steppings. Once they have all sold, everyone, not just scan, will have G0 steppings. There will probably be a period of a couple of weeks where vendors may have both, hence this offer from scan to split the stock will be useful during that transition so you know for sure which you'll be getting.

There is another vendor who does have G0's available on pre-order, but they are charging a premium for the privilege and just like everyone else they don't yet have any stock (no one does yet in the UK).

Give it a few weeks and you probably won't be able to buy anything other than a G0

Haha, this is getting rediculous. I'm actually clenching my toes in suspense. I've been gathering my new bits over the space of 3 weeks and I've been sitting on them for a week waiting for these damn CPUs. This will be the first time I've ever built a box with pretty high end components at the time they're actually high end!

All the more reason for the building tension. I agree with trusz, this is ridiculous.

This is also my first high end system as well as my first intel build, my first OC experience & the first time I've done any lapping.

How are people checking for stock news? Maybe a silly question but I don't want to have overlooked something. I keep an eye on this thread & also check what's listed on Scan's Intel Quad core page.

I wonder how many people visit this particular thread everyday, hoping to see a message saying "They're here!" ... I know I do.

Re: Scan to split Intel Quad Q6600 GO Stepping CPU's !!!

    Sorry to go off topic.

which is the best motherboard/memory to go with the Q6600? Im after 4gigs of good ram...I'm thinking of ddr2 rather than dd3 but cant make up my mind which speed memory to go for to get the best overclock. I've looked into many reviews as a guide but just need alittle more advice to nail my final system.
I'm after a cheap workstation/games comp, read its a good idea to have 1gig of ram for each core, helps with 3d apps.
    any help greatly appreciated.
p.s. im overclocker newbie, using air
