In Stock, order out of stock

Just ordered myself a nice little Palit 8800GT, price was good, and being in stock made me make the decision, so I coughed up my monies.

I just went to check the delivery details, and it hasn't been picked or dispatched as yet, and also, now it is showing Pre-Order.

Though i have emailed Scan regarding this, I would assume that they have taken monies without agreeing into a binding contract (under the distance selling act).

I am slightly cheesed off, Overclockers used to do this, thats why I left them, Aria aren't well known for their cheep pricing on new technology, so I used Scan, so far, a mistake.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

I just ordered one (sonic version) from another etailer at a ridiculously low price (3 - 5 weeks delivery) just to get on the list.
Hopefully Scan will get new stock in at a sensible price then I can cancel it and order from Scan

Cheers m8, already seen the 'other' retailer, needed it ASAP thats why I went with Scam, but considering it was in stock when I ordered, since my money has been taken from my account, they are now on back order.

Where then would you have Scan take payment? Do a search of the forums (it really helps if you actually look and see if anyone has had problems similar to yours) and you'll see ScaNs comments are the same in all cases.

The email you sent today will not be read until monday, as Customer Support is closed until Monday morning. However, the email you sent on Friday was most likely added to a long list of support emails received over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with the backlog still being addressed.

I've been using "Scam" for over 3 years now, and I've never had any large problems. Any small problems I have had were dealt with quickly and professionally. Comments like these are unhelpful and slanderous.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

Scan's practice is to take payment even if the item is not in stock so you need to cancel to get the money back. See the Scan Terms and Conditions.
Many other etailers only take payment when the item is ready to be shipped.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

I ordered it when it said In Stock and am in the same boat. Its a shame coz I cancelled my "other" retailer order as the Scan email said my estimated delivery date was Monday. Wish I hadnt cancelled the other order now. Shame Scans stock isnt updating properly on the site as I could have ordered a Gigabyte model for £147, but didnt thinking Scan could deliver by Monday.

Guess Ill just have to call on Monday to find out if theyre actually getting anymore of these in

I know its a busy time of year but communication could be better, just a simple note to say "sorry this isnt in stock anymore, have your money back" would suffice.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

    Distant selling regulations apply.
The item showed in stock, but obviously isn't, they have taken monies from me, which under the distant selling act, constitutes as a contract.
Selling items which aren't in stock (and showing them in stock) is actually against the law, and can be classed as deception, or obtaining monies through deception.
Under the distant selling act, they 'have to' notify me immediately if there is a problem with the purchase, something which they haven't done (I have received 2 emails, 1 with the order confirmation, and 2 payment authorization, both at 12:20) card was purchased 12noon Friday.

    As for the remark:
I'll sell you a 22" LCD screen, they are on the shelf, so please send me the £160 asking price, and I'll order it from the supplier, next day delivery applies, but it may take 30 days.
The above statement doesn't inspire confidence really, and though they haven't actually said this, it amounts to the same thing.

Slanderous you say?? Taking monies by deception is a worse crime.

My first purchase from Scan is my last. To be honest, I was just penny pinching, I just wish now I had gone to Overclockers, as at least they are more welcoming with their attitude when it comes to them making a mistake (previously ordered a GFX card, they found out it wasn't in stock, so they sent out the next model nearest to the one I purchased), over priced maybe, but at least they realised their mistake.

PS References are from the DTI web site, and previous e-tailers not providing the service which they agree too through taking money.

Thats why places such as Amazon don't take payment until the item has been dispatched. Seems to make more sense to me, I wonder why Scan dont do that?

Also other companies have a "cancel" button in My Account so if you find a better deal or if the delivery dates are off you can change your mind.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

The worse thing is, that they can wait 30 days before refunding the money they have taken, earning interest on the payment made, if I was to cancel the order.

Yeah... I hope they let me know one way or the other soon, that way I can order a different one if it becomes available rather than waiting around like a lemon.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

Just been flicking through the forums, and noticed that this kind of thing happens all the time, so I am not alone.

Just looks like a normal day at the office for Scan to do this.

Re: In Stock, order out of stock

To be honest it makes perfect business sense.

Get as many orders as you can, taking money for the items, in this case the 8800GT GFX cards (as they are in short supply anyway), then class them as out of stock once the order has been placed, meanwhile either keeping the orders on the system, or release the money after some interest, either way earn money, I remember the days of the 800XTX and their fabled release, most suppliers listed them, showed in stock, and as soon as orders where placed, they became impossible to purchase.

From my mind though, this isn't the way to do business, as a customer, I require confidence in their order system, their stock control system, and of course their customer service, something I have received none of.

And there is no use because their customer service department will be like all the others, very apologetic, but unable to rectify the problem.
