City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

I ordered a TRUE 120 + PWM fan on 15th Sept, completed and had 16th Sept marked down as delivery via City Link anytime between 7.30 and 17.30

Waited till 17.30 today, called CityLink several times after that and was told ' the driver is out delivering stuff ' or that ' we cannot reach the depot or the driver, we'll call you back when we hear from them ' - the last call was by 19.00, where I was told the driver would deliver by 20.00. And I left my number with them, just in case ...

Now on the site it says " 20.31: There was no one to receive the goods at the delivery point so a card was left. "

I was home the whole time and I can vouch that there was no card, nor was a delivery attempt even made. This looks like CityLink trying to cover up that they just didn't deliver anything at all.

CityLink used to be good a couple of years back. I wouldn't mind if they had explained the real problem - rather than just try the phantom card stunt, but I can safely say that their service levels have been deteriorating lately, what with rude & unhelpful staff and untimely deliveries ...

Ultimately, it affects the whole end to end Scan order process - unfairly for Scan as well. So while the Saturday delivery for the same charge as a weekday delivery is a good idea overall, the fact that City Link is the sole delivery agent is a bit frustrating to people who experience problems with them ...

I know what you mean. Something I do these days is to have a webcam pointed at my driveway throughout the course of any day when I'm expecting a courier. It's good for two reasons, first being that I can keep the feed onscreen during my browsing and musicing and not worry about missing the doorbell, and the other, and the one relevant here, being that I can take a video recording of everything happening outside my front door, so that if the courier lies about attending, I can phone his boss, tell him I have proof that his man's lying, and that he can either have the package sent over asap or give me the contact details for the complaints department of head office. It only costs about a fiver for a webcam and a suitably long USB extension cable, and I'd definitely recommend it in case it happens again.

    How long ago was that?

I feel for you though, I had a spate of failed deliveries where they couldn't find a large block of flats When it did turn up the driver apologised as they'd been short staffed and the temps they got in weren't very good.

It does reflect poorly on Scan which is a shame, but I guess it was their choice to stick with them.

Sorry to hear the OP's misfortune - most annoying. For me City Link are usually really good and I've only had one complaint in about 20 orders.

Re: City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

Ring up their customer services and ask them to tell you what colour your front door is, when they card an address they are, I was told (by CS), supposed to record a description of the property.

I had this same issue with a Scan delivery and when I rang to whine to City-Link the woman told me the driver hadn't recorded the colour of my front door. She contacted the driver and sent him back.

When he arrived, he wasn't the happiest chap I've ever spoken with
    |Kata: "Read title as 'fisting'. Not sure why I clicked. Relieved, really."|
    |TAKTAK: "It was so small that mine wouldn't fit into it"|

Re: City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

And it gets worse ! I called up today early morning and explained I had been there all evening waiting, and the lady said 'The driver might have gone to a wrong address'. Hence I gave my phone number and explicitly asked that I be contacted before the driver attempts the delivery. Was told that the delivery would happen today between 08.00 and 17.30.

And guess what ? It's 18.00 and no sign of the delivery. City Link again claims they cannot get through either to the depot or the driver. So I'm supposed to change my plans again for today evening because of CityLink's tardiness - if I don't then they'll claim that they tried to deliver again, even if it was after 17.30 - and then make me collect after two failed delivery attempts

Does it count as a delivery attempt if CityLink tries after 17.30 ? Or to a wrong address ?

TBH I'd ask for a full refund including postage and try somewhere that doesn't use City Link/you can walk into a shop and buy from. Losing 2 days of freedom waiting for a delivery would be enough to put me off for a while.

Re: City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

This is happened to me a few times before.
If it just happens one day and comes the next, it just means the driver "couldn't be bothered" to fit you in because they have a quota to for-fill every day and once it's done, they'll just tick the odd few off for "attempted delivery" and let someone do it the next day. There's reason you rarely get deliveries after around 2PM.

The other one is the wrong address has been stamped on your package. This happened with a TV I bought from another site who uses City Link, and after 3 days of phoning around, it turned out it was going out to an address in Swansea (which thankfully never answered), which is around 60 miles from me. Finally they solved the case and sorted it out (because one big box kept coming back every day and they thought it was odd).

Good luck with your problem though

Re: City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

Well the driver dropped it off finally. He was really late but didn't care at all, on the other hand, I was too happy to really care either I'd planned to lap the TRUE for my i7 rig but right now it's gone in unmodded. I'm already a week behind things and don't have the luxury of time.

But I have learned my lesson. Next time I am not depending on CityLink to deliver 'next day' ... if at all !

I quite frequently get deliveries around 3.30 or later its a pain in the ass but better than not at all. I guess it just depends on the area.

City Link are pretty good for me. The only complaint i have is they like to deliver to me at very early times, at which im in bed sleeping. Example was i ordered 3 fans from scan and they came monday (even though said tuesday delivery, which is nice) at half 8, I've never seen half 8 before

Joining the club of City Link" Attempted Delivery" also.

Been waiting today since 7am for delivery checking the website, and looking at the camera of my door!

10 minutes ago i refresh the page, and i got the dreaded:
    Delivery Attempted

A signature is required for this delivery but no one was available when we called.

If you want to reschedule or arrange to collect your parcel(s) please call 08444 724 931 before 23:00 on the date of the attempted delivery.

On the phone now to them, to see if they can get it delivered to me again, driver says my door is brown, in fact its blue! mm...

Same thing happened to me once. Was told they couldnt find my address and it had gone back to the depot, which was really weird as its extremely easy to find my place. Driver turned up the next day and I mentioned that yesterday the driver couldnt find my address and didnt he think that was strange. He admitted he was the driver yesterday, it was late and he just wanted to go home so did so and put down he couldnt find the address.

Re: City Link claims to have 'attempted delivery' but hasn't really ...

Just got delivery of my stuff not checked it yet for damage or anything like that.

They arranged for the driver to call me back, which he did. I then found he was on the opposite area to me, had to give him some directions.
Funny the depot lady said this guy knew the area really well as he does the area, the driver said to me on the phone "Sorry mate, I never been to this area so got lost!" I can see the funny side.

At least i got my stuff today, well still need to check to see if I got everything

I actually found them to be the worst to deal with a couple (ok 10) of years back to the point where I stopped using Scan as they were their courier. Since they've opened a depot in the city here, they're now one of the best (and the depot is easy to find if you have to pick anything up).
