oopsie, so excited posted msg twice, lol
Windows media player is now completely broken - not only does it not respond to any clicks, it won't shut down in the task manager, and it stops windows like the control panel and my computer loading up.
Wonder if it's got something to do with drive emulation.
Uninstall the drive emulation software or system restore to find out
Then submit a bug report to Microsoft.
I managed to get a number of things to crash in Windows 7.
After a week of "normal" use with windows explorer, firefox, Live messenger, I've had:
2 User Profile thingy stop responding
3 Windows manager thingy stop responding
4 windows explorer crashes (mostly with copying over network shares, also crash with Vista)

i have been using vista ultimate at work since early last year and i admit i have not have any issues with it so far besides it wanting to update itself from time to time preventing me from start doing my work until the updates finished.
other then that its been fine and very fast indeed.
because of my experience with using it at work, i know took the plunge and installed it on my home machine last weekend. still early days but i did have a horrible time getting it to work from my i7 rig.
i had to reinstal and format for vista twice as the first time i got a BSOD whilst installing my mobo drivers, doing a bit of overclocking and forcing the resolution to my native settings without installing the GPU drivers
at first i thought it was my OC but even when i put it back on stock, vista still would not load, even on safe mode so reckon it was the OC that made my pc crash whilst installing an important driver that messed up my OS.
2nd time round i learned my lesson, no OC and no playing around with any other settings untill all drivers were installed and so far, it has been running fine. firefox works, office works and a couple of games such has crysis and cod4 worked(fallout3 had issues starting, apparently i have mounted a dvd image of the game according to securom. how can i when fallout 3 was teh first thing i installed straight off my retail disk?).
so far vista is running really well but i am considering installing xp again if vista gives me more headache's.
o the joys and wonders of pc's eh

When I get a new system I install XP64 for overclocking. When it get so unstable there would be some random system file corruption that XP64 would notify me on the taskbar.
Then a week of overclocking-priming test to get it to 99.99% stability (72 hours stable then a click up on voltage).
After that I reinstall windows to whatever version I want, no problem with installing overclocked.
I find that is actually more stable, since if I go back to stock, then go back to overclock, most of the time it would screw up even though the settings are the same.
