Add to that Home Basic and Enterprise and I think there is a starter one aimed at emerging markets.

£175 is excluding VAT. Including VAT is around £215 - Irish VAT that is charged at 21.5%.
Yeah, in the UK only Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate will be available to the general public. In fact I don't think Ultimate will even be available "off the shelf" as it were. Microsoft aren't really pushing Ultimate at all with Windows 7.
I'm looking to upgrade to Windows 7. Well, when I say upgrade I mean install from Scratch.
I'm currently on Windows XP 32 bit...thought it was time for a change.
So, firstly, the Pro version is the one to get..nice to see MS simplifying things...a bit.
From what I can see there is little difference between the ultimate and pro versions - is that right? With Ultimate you get bitlocker and multiple languages...
Secondly, ebuyer have the Pro edition on pre-order at £89.99...that sounds like a good deal - any other places still with pre-order prices? Amazon certainly aren't...
Ultimate just has language packs, and bit locker support. That's it. Everything else a home user needs they can get from Pro or Home Premium.
I do not understand why they are removing lanuage packs from all the versions but Ultimate. Who in the Microsoft marketing department thought that would be a good idea? Seriously.
I know 90% of users only use on lanuage anyway, but still, multiple lanauage support has been started since 98. They can't remove it, imagine the uproar when someone upgrades and they can't install their Japansese IME they need for work on their copy of Home Premium?

That sucked big time. I eventually had to get an English version - but I can tell you, I didn't pay for it.
Still, that was 5 years ago.

I thought that the language support in ultimate was about being able to switch the language used
in the desktop etc not just display and input as in the IME.
got mine ordered, been using it for 2-3 months now, big difference after using vista, 1 os that worth the cash
Hi all,
Ordered my HP from PC World 2 days ago (yep, bit slow on the uptake!) for £44.99 bargain, if in deed it is retail (not OEM), but as discussed here and numerous other internet places, looks like it is retail. They've now sold out of the £44.99 ones. I was just in time! They still have Pro versions for £89.99 if anyone is interested. Looking around in fact, can't see HP left anywhere, except for the £79.99 or so price tag.....
According to the Windows 7 thread on the OcUK forums, there are still a few places selling it, but members are not allowed to provide links or even name the stores because of OcUK's infantile, dog-in-the-manger "no competitors" rule (even though OcUK themselves aren't selling Win7 pre-orders).
Here's one that seems to still have it: http://www.additionsdirect.co.uk/ - search for product no. PR631 (Professional) or PR632 (Home Premium), and you can apparently also get another 15% off by using the code xx048. Information kindly provided by a helpful OcUK forum member, before one of the dons elected to delete the link.
