    Re: Windows 7 RTM

    That is strange!

I used the USB install since the public beta, with no issues, the speed was also greatly reduced. I am really looking forward to the day when you buy something like Win7 it comes on a little USB stick rather than a stupid DVD.

Espesually things like server 2008, leave you playing the guess which servers have DVD drives rather than CD (honestly, you would naturally assume a dual xeon 5500 1u would have a DVD...)
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

I've not tried it, but if we still use the same concept of the WIM file setup then it might be possible to enter a (e.g.) Home Premium key when booting from Ultimate media (and getting Home Premium installed, ofc).

I can grab a Home Premium key tomorrow at work at test it on the EN and SV Ultimate images sitting on my Hyper-V server to check out if they take it.
To confirm - the Ultimate media will only allow an Ultimate license key, entering a Home Premium key generates the error "The product key does not match current Windows SKU. Please retype the product key."

Right but that would be with the ei.cfg in place right? What about if you delete the ei.cfg and try then. Because all 4 editions do exist on the Ultimate media.

Currently stuck at work, otherwise I'd try myself. New stuff is so much fun <3

Try the Akamai Download Manager if the Microsoft File Transfer Manager is slowing down. The Akamai one was alot faster for me.

Just got on to it via the top downloads link instead.. Had an iso downloading overnight but seems to have hit a brick wall! The Akamai looks better.. for the moment!

It's to be expected, I suppose (the meltdown.)

    Correct.

Images appear to be defaulting to the SKU in the file name, this is controlled by \sources\ei.cfg.
The prompt for the product key comes after installation now, so the SKU selection has already been made, hence it will only accept that one.

Delete \sources\ei.cfg and Setup has no idea which SKU you want, so offers you the choice - but still doesn't ask for the product key until after installation has completed.

I still don't know if this is going to be the case with the pressed media, I've only been working with the ISOs.

Pretty sure it will be. Not sure why Microsoft made this change - anyone know why?

And how would this affect Windows AnyTime Upgrade, if at all?

    Re: Windows 7 RTM

Grabbed the RTM again last night and there has been a slight improvement with the built in x38 drivers but not enough, the stutter is still there and a few issues with the southbridge handing the sata and the usb.

Will keep my pro order going and just stick it on the shelf till I get the next PC. Vista is working for me so going to stick with it and then look at Win 7 if Intel release a driver set

    Re: Windows 7 RTM

Was having a play with it last night and was having issue after issue. Certain programs (including IE and Firefox) wouldn't open unless I right-clicked and opened as admin... so I reinstalled and it did it again! Started shutting it down for the night and it blue-screened.

Doing some tests this morning it turns out my RAM is buggered. Testing it stick-by-stick now, but it looks like Scan are going to have another RMA coming their way on Monday... the 2nd with the system over there <<<, where the RAM was also faulty.

Wish Scan would stock decent alternatives to Corsair. I'm going to get some OCZ or something from elsewhere next time. My last 3 sets of Corsair have had, or still have, faults, and it's getting annoying now.

Anytime Upgrade requires the current installation to be activated, so there's no difference in that respect
The user installs the SKU they originally purchased, enters the appropriate key and activates, then goes through the Anytime Upgrade link and enters their Anytime Upgrade key.
(I've never gone through the process before so I did it for kicks just now, going from Home Premium to Ultimate to see what it involved.)

I would guess that pushing the product key prompt to the end is to remove hurdles for the attended installations and make it go through that little bit slicker - unattended & custom installations would be tweaked to suit, so it is a non-issue.
