Sort of carrying on from what was being discussed in Golden Dragoon's thread (felt it was getting a bit hijacked!), I've updated to the latest 260.99 drivers and checked the -advmethods. Picked up a new work unit... worth 7202 points (bigger than my SMP WUs)... that will take 19 hours to complete! Bizarre! Still, it bumps me up to 9k PPD so that's an improvement. Worryingly, though, it's put my GPU temp up to 81*C with my fan going at 76% :S

Don't worry about that temp, GPUs can stand that comfortably. My 8800GTX is basically designed to run at 84 degrees under heavy load: anything under 90 (as long as it's stable) should be fine

Hmm, I actually meant to post this in the chit chat thread, which seems a lot more logical :S Off to bed I think >.>

Only thing is, 'tis a bit noisy so I won't be folding this one overnight.

prob best not to use -advmethods, as you have seen you can often end up with huge work units.

I've just started using them in a hope my ppd will increase since bigadv flag still doesn't work for me.

I'm only 590 points short of setting a new monthly record, and I've just OC'd my GPU a bit more which is good for another 1.5K or so PPD. Should get some good true 24/7 over the next few days too as I'll leave this running whilst I go back to my proper home.

What are your stats for your 460 exactly? I think an i5 and a 460 should get 25kppd.

6-8k ppd for a 3.55GHz i5 750 depending on the WU (smaller = higher ppd).

    ~11.5k ppd for the 460 825/1650.

    Currently running at 17,466.0 ppd.

    That's a lot for a 768mb GTX 460! I've got the 1gb version with higher clocks and I get 11.7.
    An i5 at 3.55 GHz should get 8k I guess. At 3.8 I'd say 10.

Well, the 768MB vs. 1GB is irrelevant - it has no effect on on ppd. So just down to the clock speed, if your "My System" specs are still up to date, you're only 25MHz faster than me.

As for the SMP client, I'm currently pootling along at a very slow 5.7k ppd on a 4829 point WU. The 2/3k WUs get me closer to 8k which is much more reasonable, but the work servers just keep giving me the bigger ones!

As for the SMP client, I'm currently pootling along at a very slow 5.7k ppd on a 4829 point WU. The 2/3k WUs get me closer to 8k which is much more reasonable, but the work servers just keep giving me the bigger ones!
You're figures look about right for what you have. The extra memory on the 460 is only really useful in games at hi-res, and then it's debateable. My i7 920 @ 3.6Ghz only chugs along at approx 5-8k ppd using the SMP client. The client cersion makes more of an impact, and specifically, what workunits you're processing. My server has only a single 2.120 radiator on it, so I can't dissipate the heat at 4Ghz whcih is what speed's needed to process BIGADV workunits, otherwise 2 out of 3 of them pass their deadline, and you just get the points for the unit, ie 8k points for being 2 hours overdue on a job that takes 3 days to process (ie 2-3k ppd)

You may be able to increase the points production if you have less than 8 possible threads by running more clients and by using virtual machines also with clients in. I've not tested that theory yet though as I think that was probably more relavent when SMP clients weren't multicore.

Long and short of it is, think you're running at full speed pretty much.
