Well yes, it's something like gigaflops vs teraflops of power so it's to be expected. Still, worth it for teh bonus pointzes. I think tattysnuc should be pleased with his two young privates he has recruited to the hexus army!

Haha. Think I'm just going to scrap the SMP one, the six WU's i can get from the GPU in the same time frame probably outweighs the bonus i can get with the SMP.

I run them both at the same time. Doesn't seem to slow the GPu client down at all.

    Re: Ignore

Oh i know, but for the amount of 'leccy required and heat produced (when running both) I'm just going to stick too the GPU client. It says something when my GTX 460 can do the same workload in one hour at a lower temp and using marginally more power.

I might stick the PS3 one on at night though as it isn't *too* loud and is just as fast as the SMP client.

It's a shame my GTX 260 refuses to play ball with the GTX 460, could of had some mega points

Edit: How many SMP WU are you getting through a day ?

lol, not many at all, I stopped doing them but now that I've done about 7 I'm gonna do my 10 for some bonus points. Like 1 a day maybe? If that.

Seems massively in-efficient compared to the GPU client (to be expected i know, but still). It's around the same for PS3 client as well, i had it running on there before but that takes around 6 hours as well
I, for one, take ~10-12 hours to finish a 500k WU, so you're doing fine

LOL. That's given me a nice warm feeling.

I've had to take my main Gaming/Folding PC down so I'm only producing from 1 machine the last few days. I've Been working through some upgrades and changes. I'm not sure if you guys are interested, but in case anyone is, the new kit that has arrived:

Thermaltake Power Express 650 Watt PSU.
    eVGA GTX 480
EK GTX 480 full cover block
    Corsair Obsidian 700D
    Corsair HX1000 Modular PSU

    1. Main server (i7 920 W/C @3.6) now has 12Gb Ram (Previosuly 6) and is running bigadv (finally!)
GTX 295 folding 24/7 but still needs to be rebooted daily to keep PPD rate up, otherwise it starts slowing down at seemingly different amounts of time processing (I've not managed to lick this one yet, but it does seem to be a driver/software related issue as the cards work fine after clsoign and re-opening f@h)

    2. Main gaming PC (i7 950 ES W/C @4.2) has BSOD'd overnight again. Looks like I need higher VCore to get this up to 4.2Ghz where my 920 was happily ticking along, so am going to switch back in my 920. I tried to do this quickly this morning, but I think one of the CPU pins isn't making good contact, as only 4Gb showing of 6. I will be testing my new GTX 480 with stock fans when I get some downtime (and the memory issue resolved), and then I'll watercool that. The Thermaltake 2nd PSU that I've fitted to my drivebays seems to work a charm!

At the moment I'm just running a P6T @ 3.6 Ghz as my Media/file/Bittorrent/Folding sever with an older twin card GTX 295 (at stock I think). I have a second GTX 295 which I am trying to fix - it appears to be dead since I fitted a waterblock to it, but I'm hoping some love will bring it back. I'd then like to add in a GTX 8800 or GTX 285 depending on Power/space to complete that box. This kit is in an Antec 900 case at the moment, and it's looking tighter than a Chillean Miner Convention in there, so that's going to go into the Corsair Obsidian 700D case, with the Corsair HX1000 instead of the 750Watt Dark Power PSU that currently runs that and my raid array.

My main gaming rig has just received the benefit of the last of my bonus - a new drive bay reservoir with integrated Laing D5 vario, and instead of 1, it now has 3 swiftech 2x120mm radiators. The new pair has been fitted to the base of the case, with the fans sandwiched between them. I'm going to set up the loop properly, hopefully, this weekend, so that it goes

    RES=> 2x120mm RAD=> CPU=> 1x120mm=> 1xGTX 480=> 2x2x120mm Rad=> RES

I know that's not necessarily the best route, but where the radiators are mounted, it's about as good as I can get - basically I'm stuffing in as much as I can so I can keep the temps down as much. I've got a TEC which I might incorparate also, but I've not got much more room to play with in my HAF 932. I'm keeping the PSU mounted at the top which is what's buggered me up the most because that blocks off the top radiator mounting position. I only quickly set up the tubing using the existing pipes to test the new Res/Pump and radiators didn't leak. I need some quality time with my main rig to get it properly assembled and looking loved again.

Think this lot will keep me busy for some time yet. I've also got a Zotac 9300 ITX motherboard and watercooling project that I'm squeezing into an old shuttle case which is the next project once that lot is all up and stable. It could be some time before I'm fully up to speed.....

So much for me leading by example - I can't even get my own "toys" working for me...! I'd best do or god only knows I will have wasted hundreds on kit, and to add insult to injury I'll have to turn on the heating in the house this winter!

    Noooooooooooooo.

    Fold on dudes....

You'll need different versions of the FAH client. GPU3 for the fermi card and GPU2 for the GTX 260.

You dont need to set up SLI or anything like that (it wont work on 2 different GPU architectures anyway). The guide I used to get my GTX 295 working, which should be the same principle that you use is located HERE

What do the playstation 3's kick out points-per-day wise? I;m not interested in buying one, just curious how they compare vs some of the stuff I've bought over time.

    Cheers!

the 480 kicks out just less than the 295. the 295 consistently does 12000 ppd, and the 480 consistently does 11000.

When I had my 285 folding, that chucked out 9500 per day, so that was the most cost effective points per day (based on current purchase price) for me. The values that people on these review sites quote all seem to be a little higher, but that's been consistently noted, certainly in the Bit-tech forums.

I get the whole different clients are needed, but when i powered up yesterday my GTX 260 was running @ 100% fan and my GTX 460 drivers were disabled and i was left with idiot res

I'll try again over the weekend. As for the PS3, i don't know the PPD but it's around 6 hours for a 500,000 WU - although I'll check that to make sure.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Ignore

Review sites do tend to say that a GTX 460 will do 10k ppd and things like that but in the real world I guess it's less. What can you tell us about monitoring software?

I take it that individually they run fine?

Have you tried doing a clean GFX driver install, with the GTX 460 in the PCI slot nearest the CPU, then adding in the 260 afterwards into the second?

Are you using the "-gpu 1" and "-gpu 2" flags?
