I don't think that's his issue as his fan's coming on full on the GTX 260, and the drivers for the GTX 460 are in "idiot res" (I assume this is 800x600 or something low like that). Sounds to me like a driver issue....

Wonder if the GTX 460 is installed in the slot where the GTX 260 was installed, without the driver first being uninstalled, and it's then picked up the GTX 260, just on a different PCI express lane, and not installed the GTX 460 driver.

Also, can you load up eVGA precision and see if you can see the different cards, and control them using that?

Have you tried doing a clean GFX driver install, with the GTX 460 in the PCI slot nearest the CPU, then adding in the 260 afterwards into the second?

Individually yes, and the GTX 460 in the upper most slot was how i had it and the 260 in the lower one.
I didn't even get to doing a clean driver install as the sound of a GTX 260 at full fan speed is genuinely unbearable. I don't think the fan issue is driver related though as when I've clean installed before now with the GTX 260 it was quiet even before installing drivers.

Are you using the "-gpu 1" and "-gpu 2" flags?

BTW, what's a good cooler for a 9800GTX? Is it a good idea to cool it, will it prolong the life of the card? It's sitting at 70-72C full load atm. Could get an akasa vortexx neo or an AC sink to calm temps and noise?

If he's poor already, don't make him fold on AMD - it's a lost cause until they get some changes in place (OpenCL and all). Now it's basically a waste of electricity - a quad core set up on SMP would get more points (I assume he gets around 2500-3000PPD?).

I've found that annoying as well - tried it on brother's laptop for a week. CPU temps were always around the 92-97 degree mark with ear-splitting noise. I hope you have a better experience Otherwise I would guess your dad wouldn't even notice that the client is running.

A dedicated Q6600 rig should get about 4k where a dedicated HD 4850 wouldn't get much more than 2.5k, considering my HD 4870 averages 2.6k.

Got to around 25% on the SMP, then got some error :|

Does the SMP client (assuming there only is a DOS type one) not save at intervals as every time I've started it up its started from 0 steps again :/

Yeah it has saved before now and picked up at 7% for example, but then other times it starts back from zero - and I've decided i want my bonus'z

The error came up after some sort of verification failure it said, after it had run up too around 25% which was annoying.
