Do we have any FX figures for folding yet?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
I found this at overclockers.com - link
Stock FX8150:
Regular SMP work unit - 13698.9ppd
Bigadv work unit - 13859.2ppd

AFAIK folding is FPU intensive, and despite all the architecture indications that BD should be good with heavy FP workloads, indication so far is that it isn't. I'm getting very confused about the whole BD architecture at the minute - it appears that unless software is coded just right it can't make good use of the BD architecure, so in most current workloads it's simply not that good...
well, suffice as to say I'll be sticking with SB or the forseable. I was secretly hoping that BD would be better for our folding purposes, so I could sell my SB kit and upgrade again, but that really isn;t an option, especially given the thermals of BD heavily overclocked. It's not only slower, but hotter than the rigs I have, so for me it's a no go.
Over on Bit-tech they have a similar discussion going, and are coming to the same conclusion, although it does look as thought the PP metric used may be on the lower side as the unit used is a particularly slow one to crunch through.

Hey folks, just spotted 3 new members

Tiggerai

while I was browsing a stats site before powering down for the day.
I also spotted a fairly major landmark from one of our forum contributors - Queelis broke the half million mark yesterday. Well done fella! Not bad for an AMD platform
We should break the 150M mark this month, which is a massive achievement, considering it wasn't that long ago that we hit the 100M points. Very well done one and all!
Had a couple of minutes spare, so worked it out, at the current rate that means we should hit 150M at 3am on Next Saturday morning (UK time). That would assume a flat run rate, which of course, Folding is not. I'm looking forward to checking in next week to find out how we progressed!

it seemed appropriate with all the AMD bashing that's been going on since the launch of Bulldozer. I can;t believe the strenght of the negative emotions being poured out at the moment, for a chip that's almost universally better than it's predecessor, just not QUITE as good as the market leaders.
Seriously though, well done with getting to the half million!

Heh, I'll keep on chugging. Maybe eventually I'll stumble upon someone with an X6 for sale, that'd be awesome
Was Terbi's no good for you?

He said "depending on how BD works out". I assume he wasn't precisely gobsmacked by it
If you are, Terbi, gimme a shout
...the scynics among us will say that this is why AMD stick with a CPU socket that allows continual upgrade. Those with an X6 on a recent board (AM3+) will at least still be able to move to the new platform. If they'd done an Intel and just binned off the old platform and started again from scratch, then imagine how badly they'd be fairing right now... At least you can buy old kit and re-use it rather than have send it all off (including any OEM OS you might have bought) eacyh time a new chip comes out. It's for that reason that I still rate AMD - they're consumer's spend awareness is bob on.

I've just had a response on the name colour suggestion that we came up with a while back. Once I get confirmation, I will let you all know.

Sorry don't think i will be parting with my X6 now as performance isn't as expected./hoped form BD and more so, BD support is near none-existent for my C4F it seems Maybe that will change in a few weeks though!
