Nothing's settled yet, though I'll finish my current unit first.
    Me too.

Well, a break from folding for Hexus for the time being. Am going to go back to Bit-tech for a while as over the last 12 months they've been more active, and there's more of the sort of stuff I'm interested in going on there.

I'm going to do the folder of the month when I get round to it, but otherwise that's it for now.

I've been very disappointed by the lack of support that we receive(d) when folding under the "www.Hexus.net" banner. I've still yet to see any folding performance figures included as part of the product reviews for GPU's and CPU's, so for the time being I've decided to call it a day.

Those who have been involved in folding at Hexus, please keep up the very excellent work.
I do hope you'll have me back one day, but for the time being I have been spending more and more time over on Bit-tech's forums and feel it only right that if they are providing me with the support and new ideas that I have been looking for, then I feel that is where I should be focussing my folding.

Hexus 560Ti 448 review includes a F@H benchmark, which it looks like Hexus intend to continue using for future GPU reviews. And of course, Hexus is unlikely to kick up its folding promotion if people leave the Hexus folding team...

Shame people are leaving but I understand why, I couldn’t justify leaving my PC on all day and with a 5850 GPU folding was almost pointless. Obviously we now have to banish you from HEXUS Tatty but I’m sure you’ll get over it

OK - so shoot me. I missed that one - one swallow doesn't make a summer though. What about the latest Intel S2011 CPU's?

It isn't meant as a slur on Hexus - just merely that there hasn't exactly been a lot of support via the main site.... It has been my experience that I FEEL that we are unsupported with our contributions, and that I would be able to produce more points, and contribute better to the science behind folding by being in another team that is being actively supported by it's host.

I do hope that I am still welcome round here. There's some fabulous work being done, and I'd like to hope that the 26m points are not forgotten.... god knows, my leccy bill wont be forgotten.

I promise I'll sit in the corner and behave.

Is is just me, or do I sound like a spoilt kid who hasn't got their way...?

    errrmmm....no comment

Fair enough to leave the F@H stuff on here and go to B-T for that as it’s not like you can’t use different forums for different stuff!

To totally leave and become ‘here VS there’ would be a bit OTT though so I’d hope you’d not go that far, I know there is a bit of a split between the forums for some reason or another (judging by comments on both forums) but I've never cared enough to look into why that is I assume it's just typical tribal natures coming out.

I must admit, i do find that a bit childish, and most of it has been on here relating to reviews bit-tech have done of Intel kit, and the bias they how to that side. For me, it's a case of "whatever."

I'm still going to be here, and hopefully contributing constructively. Hell, certainly don't want to be adopting a "them and us" attitude, just that I'll be folding for "the dark side" because they are more geared up to support me and my needs... nothing more.

    let's not be childish

shame you're leaving, but any tips/advice you get over there you can shoot our way!

it's understandable when people commit finances to this (rather than just what they have) that they might want more out of the experience than some others, and is a shame we haven't been recognized much. I fold when i can for personal reasons, so i just want to see the project as a whole succeed

I wholly concur. I certainly don;t expect to become a stranger round these parts - there are some wonderful people here on the Hexus forums. I just wish more of them folded so we could share more of the ideas to drive the project forward.

I fully expect to stick around, just not folding for the time being.

The science is the same regardless of who you fold for, and you don't sound like a child not getting your own way, more like an angsty teenager lol
Still you will always be welcome back at any time, if you could send me the various calculations and methods that you used for the folder of the month post I would like to continue them, unless you would still be doing them even when folding for the dark side lol

No probs. PM me you email address and I'll write you up a little note to go with it. It's not to tricky, just a bit contrived.

Cheers. I'll do an update at the end of the year and then hand it over to you if you want. I still need to find some time to do last months performance.... Doh!

No, I know, just thought it was only fair on the main site to point out that they've made *some* moves to rememdy the situation!

Hard to argue with that - folding certainly isn't a high priority for Hexus.net. I guess there's only so much they can concentrate on without diluting the quality, and it looks like they're targeting a more systematic reviews process at the minute....

    DEDICATED FOLDING RIG QUESTION!:

didn't wanna start a new thread, but i've been thinking of getting a dedicated rig up. SMP and GPU, no bigadv nonsense.

how would ppd compare between a 2500k, 2600k and 1055T (all overclocked to around 4GHz), because the price difference of a total rig is massively in favour of the old AMD rig

Not sure if the numbers include BIGADV or not. They're 6900-6903 WU;s if memory serves.
Yup, no question about it: an overclocked SB i7 will waste a 1055T, even if it's at 4GHz. From the charts - up to more than twice as many PPD.

When it says SMP, it means it's not bigadv (those results weren't bigadv).

I just don't get how the performance can be so disparate. The application is CPU-agnostic, so there's no point loading going on like there is rumoured to be on NVidia vs ATI (I have to say rumoured because this seems to be of ATI's own making if I'm understanding issues correctly - it physically doesn't process the data as quickly for whatever reason).

Are the guys over at Intel just that far ahead on the development curve that anything AMD do will be out gunned, or is this an AMD software/firmware issue? I'm sure that there are enough conspiracy theorists out there to keep that discussion going in itself.

I put this down to Intel spending their profits wisely and investing in their business, while AMD were "distracted" by a whole lot of noise (Fab spin off, purchase of ATI, Will they or wont they buy X company, are they pulling out of the CPU market) - I really do think that they need to (and be seen to) start focussing on their core business and stop dipping their toes into multiple markets, and ultimately get dome direction. They're a great business, but to the average punter on the street, when someone says computer, people think Intel and not AMD - they just make the cheaper ones.
