welll maybe not all decisions but most imo.
The race stewards are the ones saying he deliberately mislead them - i.e. he lied or omitted to tell the truth. McLaren are very likely to back their driver and say he didn't do so - it may be true it may not - we don't and probably won't know.
Also, how can you say that all the decisions are going against him? It's only the first race this year and he won the championship last year! Most of the stuff the year before was down to McLaren not Hamilton.
Yep - also bearing in mind the FIA actually handed him the 3rd place in the first place. Though part of their ineptness in doing so caused this ruckus to begin with. Also, how can you say that all the decisions are going against him? It's only the first race this year and he won the championship last year! Most of the stuff the year before was down to McLaren not Hamilton.
The more you push the rules, the more likely you are to get bitten by them. It's pretty much that simple. It's not like he's been punished for every potential offence he's made...
Against Whitmarsh's statement is the official McLaren one, which rather goes in the opposite direction and just accepts they messed up and won't be appealing.
Apparently the radio transmissions in question will be released in due course.
//edit:
Radio transmission:
Team: Lewis, you need to allow the Toyota through. Allow the Toyota through now.
LW: OK.
LW: He’s slowed right down in front of me.
Team: OK, Lewis. Stay ahead for the time being. Stay ahead. We will get back to you. We are
talking to Charlie.
LW: I let him past already.
Martin Whitmarsh:
Radio tranmission can be heard here.Once that instruction was given to Lewis, he did not agree. He said: 'Look, the guy was off the circuit, I don't need to do this.' A discussion was occurring and before that discussion was finished, Trulli had re-passed. If we look at the speed traces at that time, and compare it to other periods behind the safety car, then Lewis did not do anything abnormal. And I think it is also quite clear that Trulli should not have re-passed.

Does it really matter if it was Lewis or McLaren that "lied"? F1 is considered by most to be a team sport and as such the team has been penalised. It's the same situation if an engine or gear box fails, the team gets a penalty via the driver being put further back on the grid. So the issue really isn't about whether or not Lewis or Mclaren "lied" but if the penalty is fair.
From looking at the report on the FIA website the penalty dished out seems fair to me. However, I think it would be harsh to impose any further penalties.
Its a joke to be honest. I accept that Lewis and McLaren are right to be disqualified, altho maybe a bit harsh, maybe reinstating Trulli would have done the job.
But deciding race results 4 days after the race is ridiculous, and this is getting very common place now, the result of the race could still change after Malaysia with the diffuser appeal.
They need to get this sorted out, as its becoming as farce.
You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?
I agree with midtz, the logical course to me would to be stick trulli back in third if there is real cause for dispute, hamilton back to fourth, the position he earned and everyone is back to where they starter (or finished..).
I can't be asked to discuss if Hamilton was in the wrong or whatever, but the FIA have got to get their arse into gear!!!!!! All this should have been decided on the day not four days later. Again the FIA have made F1 a laughing stock. God knows what will happen with the whole diffuser nonsense.

re: the diffuser - it'll probably be made legal/illegal (rules clarification) from that point on and won't have any impact on previous results.
Its happened in the past with other rule interpretations (nobody was racing under protest either so the result cannot change.)

It's a shame this is taking away the spotlight from Button, the guy deserves the plaudits, after the past couple of years.
