Does this mean the 5950x is actually slower than the 3950x in multi threaded tasks?
Only if you believe the benchmarks are done in any sort of consistent manner. The 5950X is supposed to be more energy efficient than the 3950X, which should allow it to boost better ignoring any IPC improvements.

There will always be the odd outlier where a new CPU is slower than the old one if you look hard enough, but I struggle to believe that Geekbench is such a program.

Hi guys, how likely/unlikely would we see the 3600/3700 be discounted pretty heavily during Black Friday?

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Theres CB results out there showing showing the 5600 beating the 3800 in multi threading results. I do keep seeing people say itd be worth sticking with an 8 core 3xxx longer term but I'm not sure that is the case if its already falling short in Cinebench.

From a cost/perf however, might be a different story.

Its not quicker and the higher score is with an overclock:

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

Some reviews from websites and magazines have leaked early:
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/posts/34170378/

Also not good news for one game I play from an OcUK forum member:

Ive also installed a 5600X today and done a few tests.

    I was running a Ryzen 3600, 32GB 3200 ballistix and a RTX 3080

i only upgraded to a Ryzen 3600 2 weeks ago so not had chance to compare much.

Ive seen a some maybe 2-5% fps increase in a few games, Horizonal Zero dawn seemed to go up 10% but was already amazing on the Ryzen 3600.

A fully modded Fallout4 with enb, still dipped into the 50'fps when looking in the same direction as the 3600, that was my main test as my late i7 3770K was in the 30's. Buit I think that engine isnt the best.

Benchmarks show a nice 14-19% increase.

So, overall I am happy with that cheap upgrade from the 2nd hand 3600. The increase means im futureproof for a bit.

But for gaming, its not going to be much different at higher resolutions.

Im happy for the price I paid, but for a 30% RRP increase over a current Ryzen 3600 im not sure.
    Edit!!

It will be interesting when the 4000 series APUs become readily available what their improved memory controller does for stuff like FO4, if anyone has memory fast enough to try the scaling.

The issue is Zen3 has reduced latencies(WRT to memory),and there should be less IF hops due to the unified CCX?? I would think memory speed would be less of an issue - would be weird if Intel is still quicker with worse memory?? Starfield is also Creation based.

Doesn't Creation engine have some weird x87 nonsense going on IIRC?

AIUI the IO die is identical to the one in 3000 series CPUs. If you can stay within the CCX then performance is better which makes average memory performance appear better, but if you thrash memory hard enough I don't see how it can copy any better than 3000 series.

Intel may have a better pre-fetcher still. Or maybe one of their security flaws gives a nice leg-up.

Did anyone actually get one? I had it in my basket at scan but it went out of stock as my payment was going through and my bank was messing around asking me to confirm and log into my phone app etc etc It seems like being in the basket doesn't actually hold onto the stock.

My brother managed to order a 5950x from Scan, my order from Scan got stuck on the please wait spinning wheel.

Tried CCL and got stuck in the order queue.

    OCUK, Novatech, Ebuyer price gouging.

Amazon UK went live at 11am apparently.

Finally managed to place an order with Currys PCW for the 5950x, hope it doesn't get cancelled.

they may hit the wonky FCLK at high memory speeds.
according to PC Gamer anyhow https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-zen-3-in...ffer-pcgamertw
seems the memory is wonky above 1800MHZ (so 3600 memory)

    AMD response (in that article)
"We are working on additional optimizations for 1900-2000MHz fabric clocks in our next AGESA release. AMD cannot guarantee any samples, including your own, will be able to hit these speeds. Although some current Ryzen 5000 samples are able to achieve a 1900+ fabric speed we feel confident even more users will be able to obtain these speeds with the forthcoming optimizations. If you recall on the 3000 series many, but not all, users were able to achieve a fabric speed of 1900. We believe this will be a similar situation with 5000 series processors and 2000MHz."
