    Re: Prototype

I thought the story was pretty good. It's so interesting to see how the web of intrigue targets tie into the story and see different peoples views on what's going on. I mean, it's not going to win any awards but it's engaging enough to have me actually watch all the cut scenes.

If you play purely to get evolution points to upgrade your powers then yeah, it will get very boring. If you just play to have fun then you'll enjoy it more.

I think it is a good game. So many great moments.

Like when in disgise in a base. A higher ranking soldier slaps you for getting close. How that changes as your diseased arm morphs into razor sharp claws and they scream as the ends rape their flesh. Then you run behind some crates, morph into a soldier unnoticed. And the fights in the streets are epic at times

    Re: Prototype

Had a massive session with this game last night. Doing nothing apart from the opening chapter and the one that follows it. All the rest was just pure havoc. LOVING IT.

One of my favourites things to do, climb the highest building, and just jump over. Don't press anything, and just look at the crater when you land. It's just awesome - the engine is very impressive.

Poking a miltary van is always fun too. Quickly disable one guy get his gun, and just hope 50ft in the air and just destroy them!!

Can you tell I really enjoyed this game?

Currently playing it with k/board and mouse. Will try the 360 controller tomorrow. But daaaayyumm this game rocks.

    Couple of points though...

The targeting system is complete crap, and completely wrecks your fun when you have 10+ baddies to kill. You start your moves and then lock onto to a random person a million miles away. That needs to be reworked.

So do the battle controls, at the moment it just feels like I'm button bashing, and it works for me atleast in the opening chapters of the game.

Sound also needs to be looked at. It's very lacking and has no depth/feel. The cutscenes are dead quiet.

It runs like a dream on my system, no complaints in that department

With the mouse, hold down the mouse wheel. That way you can direct a target towards the victim you choose to lock on to

As I carried on more things unlocked. Different sub mississions you can take to gain XP.

And I unlocked new skills. When in disguise, you can walk up to another soldier, grapple him and push him away. You then point at him and shout "It's him, that's our target" and all the other soldiers gun the bloke down

So now things have taken a new twist and I can play differently. I was going to make a comparrisson.
Even though I never played infamous,

GTA IV is to Saints Row what Infamous is to Prototype.
Like GTA IV and Infamous are better worlds with better interaction. And more polished. Saints Row 2 is over the top and a bit more tackier than GTA IV.

But as I am getting into Prototype I'm begining to realise it is not tacky at all compared to Infamous.
Today as I ran through the streets it blew me away how many people were on the street rioting. It looked amazing as I hammered it along the street with helicopters chasing after me. And I jumped over a wall, grabbed a pedestrian and ran up the side of a building to eat the ped on the roof. This game has real style to it. It's all these little things. Like when running when things get manic you hold down your R key to bring up a menu to select a power via a wheel type menu. For the first 10 secs of opening the menu the game carries on in slow motion.

    Good stuff

Yeah, tried that too. Still piss poor system though. Although the pure carnage and mayhem more than make up for that.

    Re: Prototype

I'm honestly getting so frustrated at how ridiculous it is to infiltrate a military base, and how pointless it is destroying them and hives. I go into the base disguised as a soldier and alarm bells start ringing saying there is an infected in the base, I can sabotage 1 detector before they see it's me and call in a strike team. All of a sudden I have 5 helipcopters, 4 gun turrets, 20 rocket launchers and a hundred machine guns on my ass. These soldiers seem to have no compassion for their colleagues as they just fire rockets at me and destroy each other. After about 5 seconds the entire base is destroyed (with me just lying there getting filled with lead) along with the commander. So I can't infiltrate the base.
I tried another tactic, just gliding in and consuming the commander and running in. This doesn't work either because as soon as I consume him (using the stealth consume) all the detectors start going off, and once again they spot me. So I have to run off and hide and evade or destroy the strike team. The clock is ticking so I make my way back to base but of course as soon as I'm about to entire the detectors go off and they spot me. There just isn't enough time for the harder missions (that give you less time, harder bases to enter) to sabotage a detector, evade the strike team, sneak back in, sabotage another one, evade strike team, etc. Really getting on my nerves.

Another thing which annoys me is how quickly military bases and hives respawn after you destroy them. I got in a helicopter and destroyed nearly every hive, looked at the map and saw that they had all just respawned. I destroyed a few military bases and 5 minutes later they were all back up in the same positions. I thought we could control the way the war turned out? I assumed that if I destroy a military base in a position that the military and infected were fighting, then the infected would eventually win and move forward to expand their control of the city? Obviously not.

Great game apart from these things, love the hammer throw .

    Re: Prototype

You need stealth consume. Use Lock on to target your soldier. Then press F key. A mini menu should appear on your right. Walk behind the soldier. When no one else is watching the over the consume icon in the menu should light up telling you to press E. Now stealth kill.

And remember, you can avoid those machines by leaping up on the roof.

I already use stealth consume, but I still get detected by the detectors a few seconds later .

That is their purpose. To detect infected in disguise. I always avoid them. Apart from one mission that required it. Once right clicking on it you have to type in the numbers as quick as it shows you. Not made clear though

    Re: Prototype

No you are totally missing my point . I know how to stealth consume, I know how to sabotage the detectors. It's just that later in the game the difficulty is amped right up and when in a military base it's impossible to not be spotted and strike teams sent in, etc. You can't avoid the detectors as the commander is always standing in between 2 of them and you can't spend more than a few seconds next to them without them realising who you are.

    Re: Prototype

On an early mission I simply ran up in soldier form, picked up the commander and devoured him before running into the base. Inside you can hide after eating someone else. As soon as you are out of site you can morph into a soldier again and they are fooled. I do not know if that will fail your mission.

This why I do not get annoyed when I fail. As you gain more powers, you gain more ways to go about it

    Re: Prototype

How far are you into the game? That was what I done at the beginning, but now that I'm pretty near the end the military bases are packed with detectors, gun turrets, tanks, helicopters and soldiers. I've even seen a few super soldiers who can always see through your disguise. It's almost impossibly difficult to make it into the base, so all my gun and vehicle skills are lacking behind .

    Re: Prototype

I wish the game would continously give you hints. I've just spent like 90 mins figuring out how to consume somebody. I kept killing the people. Anyway, turns out you have to grab them (B) and then use special move (Y). The web of intrigue thing look interesting.

Think I'm probably gonna have to remap some of these controls. They aren't very friendly. My first proper mission, I had to run away and switch.

Also, I didn't know you could buy upgrades. They really do need a proper tutorial for this game.

Anyone figured out WTF the sound latency option is for?

Edit* I'm now using the 360 controller. Alot easier to move around. Aiming/targetting doing anything in a proper order still sucks though

    Re: Prototype

I am at the stage where:

I have rescued woman features from the hive after excorting the special tank to blow up the wall of the hive.

I have just figured out how to use the devastators. Awesome. Now my game is never button bashing.

I got to a base with these detector thingies. You cannot get in the base without setting off the detectors. You can literally take them out from the roof tops and dive into an alley to morph back into a soldier on the ground so you can sneak back in. I took out 2 to get to the commander. Once inside I devoured everyone worth while, killed everyone and morphed back into a soldier and walked outside. I highlighted the last detector on target and called for an air strike See me try to runn out the base before the bombs drops.

This game is really good now. I'm usig the whip ability to grapple helicopters so I can pull myself up and hijack them. Combat has slowed down for me. It's no longer manic. I'm calculating every move and kicking ass. This game has got to be at least an 8 out of ten. FTW.
